First the binder is really bulky. The cover is a squishy, soft, and wipe-able material, but it is really bulky. The binder is heavy too. I cannot see carrying this around in my diaper bag (which is something you'd want to be able to do with a tracker like this). Sure, you could take out a few pages to bring along instead . . . but then why not just find a free tracking page online and print a bunch if you're going to do that? The whole point of a binder is having it together and neatly organized and secure, and this binder is just not easily portable.
Second The binder doesn't lay flat. This could be a major issue if you're wanting to hold your baby in one arm and write with the other.
Third The included pages are not what I wanted. I was hoping it would have one package of the newborn, 24-hour tracking pages, and one package of the baby, daytime only tracking pages. Instead it has 2 packs of pages, good for 6 months each (total of 12 months tracking), but they are *both* the baby, daytime only tracking. They aren't even 12 hours either they span 8AM to 6PM. As a first time mother, and a bit of an organizational freak, I was hoping for pages that would be at least 6AM to 6PM. I've spent enough time around other people's kids to know babies, even older babies, wake up early, then want a nap, then wake up again, etc. Sure, you could write in a different wake up time than 8AM, but why? The pages could clearly fit at least a 12 hour span if formatted properly. It would also be nice if the baby tracking pages had a bit of space for writing nighttime issues, in case your older baby isn't sleeping through the night yet, and you want to track when he/she wakes up to see if you notice a pattern or issue. More importantly, as a first time mom and wanting to use this with my newborn, I *really* wanted to have at least one package of the 24-hour newborn pages for this binder! Since those weren't included, I'd have to shell out more cash to go buy the refill pack on the company's own website, since, for some reason, they aren't available on Amazon.
Fourth and probably the smallest of my complaints, I'm not impressed with having asked the company questions about this product and then getting no response. That deters me from wanting to order their products, and especially order directly from them. Luckily I purchased this item from Amazon so I know there will no issues with returning it.
That being said, I also purchased the spiral bound, newborn, 24-hour tracker book from this same company. I looked through it and am quite pleased with it for use when my little guy arrives. I checked out a bunch of different tracking books before purchase and most of them are just blank charts. You have to fill in everything, including times of day. It seems like a little thing but in a sleep deprived fog I do not want to have to think about writing in times. I want to just glance at a clock, notice it's around 8AM, and grab the log to track in the 8AM box. This company's products have the times all charted out already you can just draw arrows for things like naps, how long a feeding took, how long you were active, and then there is space for notes about what you did during that period. I really like how all of that is neatly organized out for me already. The 24-hour pages are perfect for newborn and younger baby tracking too. And best of all, the spiral bound book lays flat and will easily fit in a diaper bag.
I will be sticking to the spiral bound trackers from this company. This is a great product to use for a nanny or babysitter that is with your baby all day. I love it.
