Enfamil Infant Formula Powder, Gentlease

Just our experience, but when I had to supplement with formula for our baby who had only been given breast milk, he wouldn't touch it. I tried several times, but it tastes very bitter. Many moms I've talked to have said that breast milk-fed babies do very well with Gerber Good Start formula. It tastes the most like breast milk. That is what I'm using. Hopes this helps a desperate mom out there who is looking for a good formula to try!

Our son was having lots of problems with gas (we are breastfeeding and supplimenting) so we tried this formula. It reduced the amount of gas he had (I was counting the crying mad sessions) -or at least the amount that he would complain about. It didn't eliminate it completely, although I really can't tell how much of that might be due to my wife's diet.

Regardless, if you have a gassy baby, you may want to give this a try.

It doesn't seem to dissolve as well as the 'regular' Enfamil, so you may want to use a knife or something to mash out any balls of Enfamil powder that form. After doing that, it doesn't have any problems finishing dissolving.

My son started off on enfamil newborn. Horrible stuff! He spit up AND threw up, pooped so much his little butt was red and fussed all the time. Then he developed horrible gas on it so we switched to Enfamil Prosobee. Horrible. Made things worse. Horrible gas, HORRID constipation and now we was fussing through an entire feeding. I was weary about trying Gentlease but I didn't know what else to do for him.

Night 1 on Gentlease he screamed for an hour straight, I thought there was going to be NO formula that would work for him. Then I remembered his doctor saying that he might have trouble switching formulas as it tends to be hard on their stomach, so I stuck with it another night.

Night 2 I saw much improvement but he still seemed very gassy and a tad fussy.

It's now been a week on gentlease and he is thriving! No spit up, about 2 pretty nasty poops a day but at least he's not constipated, no fussiness while eating and very minimal gas. He's sleeping for longer and overall just seems so much happier!

To be honest, I didn't want to like this formula. I was having gas and spit-up issues with Enfamil Newborn and our pediatrician recommended this for our 2 week old son. When I read the ingredients and saw that the first one is corn syrup, I balked and purchased a three pack of Baby's Only Organic from Amazon, hoping it would work for us. It made my baby terribly constipated. So I bought the Target brand Gentle formula which is supposed to be comparable to this. It is, but we were still getting spit ups. I switched to a mix of Enfamil Newborn and Enfamil AR. Back to horrible, screaming gas issues. Finally, reluctantly, I had to admit that of the four things we'd tried, this is the best for us. I bought the brand name because the Target brand smelled like malt mix and doesn't mix well. There is really no difference between Enfamil and Target other than the smell and color. Enfamil doesn't mix well either. Both give my son horrible green swamp poops which are runny and explosive. But apparently that's normal with the gentle formulas. Yuk.

My son does better on this. I suspect he has lactose sensitivities and this, while not really cutting down on the gas, helps him to pass it and not scream in pain all day. He sleeps well and eats without pain. While I would like him to eat something that doesn't make his diapers so nasty, it's worth it. Plus, we use cloth diapers so the poop doesn't explode out of the diaper and onto his clothes. It does make for some very interesting diaper changes.

I'm still not completely settled on this, but I have a two month supply so we are on it for now. I just wish I could find something that would agree with him without the gross diapers and less than ideal ingredients.

Update: I switched to Baby's Only LactoRelief and saw a HUGE improvement in reflux symptoms in just 1 feed! His stools improved drastically and he is a new baby! I have come to believe that it was not reflux at all.

Crocodile Creek Snack Keeper Sets

I purchased 2 of these for my kids' lunches. We use them EVERY day. They hold up well and my kids have NO trouble opening them. I usually put black olives or berries in this container, the size is perfect. I wish they would come in solids without a print as my older kids don't want the cutesy princess or whatever. The robot was the least offensive to them. I hand wash at the end of each day and they are ready to go again.

These snack containers are so cute and just the right size for a toddler or preschooler-sized snack. There's only one problem...a toddler or preschooler will be unable to open the container! Even this preschooler's mom has trouble opening it without tipping it, and once there's a snack in it, tipping it can make the snack fall out. Snack keeper is a good name, since if you want to keep your snacks off the floor, you'll need to keep them in the container...permanently.

I"m going to send a note to crocodile creek with this feedback...it'll be interesting to hear what they have to say. Surely these things were tested before they were released, so I can't imagine how no one noticed how nearly impossible they are to open!

Addendum: I just put some big pretzels (should try goldfish for a better test) in the container and asked my 4 year old to open it for me. He's pretty good with little fidgety things, and he was able to hold it down on the table securely with one hand and open the latch with the other. (He's had the container for a few days, so he may have figured it out over time) It was hard for him and I suspect that there will be times that his hands will slip and the container and snacks will go flying. So I'm adding one more star, but I still hope the company will redesign these so the closure is easier to operate.

Pigeon Baby Nose Cleaning Tweezers Pigeon (Made in Japan)

I ordered this just because it was coming from the same supplier that the suction thingy was from. The suction thing is okay, but these tweezers are used all the time. It does get those hard buggies out, and usually ends up dragging out a long gooey one with it! I know, I know TMI

The only thing that could improve is the width. There's no hinge or anything so the tweezers are set at about 1/4" apart, sometimes there is need for it to be wider so I have to use my pinky to spread them apart, slightly awkward especially holding a baby.

I relied on other reviews to buy this product. I have to say these are definitely going to make your life easier. When your little baby's nose is stuffed up and is having trouble feeding you will need these. I have tried the bulb syringe which doesn't work all the time and the baby hates it. I have also bought a nose aspirator, baby comfy nose, but if you have these you don't have to bother using an aspirator. I use these just about every other day to quickly and painlessly remove boogies from my two month old's nose. I am not saying that he likes it but it gets the job done pretty fast and painlessly. No need putting water drops in his nose which he hates and going through the whole routine of using an aspirator or bulb syringe. The tweezers are able to get dried boogies and usually pull the wet stuff out with it. I would say it may take about 5 seconds to get the job done. I can't say enough about how great these are. If I lost or broke them I would NEED to buy them again!

My daughter is 6-months old and nearly from the beginning she wakes up with very large dried boogers in her nose. Her nose is too small for traditional removal methods (fingers) and regular tweezers are too dangerous. The boogers will just stay in her nose for days without assistance.

While trying to get boogers out of my one-month old daughter's nose, I thought to myself that this would be sooooooo much easier if I had some safe tweezers I could use. I came to Amazon and searched "plastic tweezers" and found these! I couldn't wait. The bulb aspirator from the hospital that sucks well does not fit in her nostril (even now that she's 5 months old). The bulb aspirator that I found that fits her nostril doesn't suck well enough.

So why only three stars? Well while great in theory, these things do a better job of sticking boogers further up her nose than getting them out. The tips are rounded (for safety, I presume)... but it's like little balls of plastic on the end. They don't do a good job of clamping onto boogers and are so much bigger than the tweezer that most of the time they shove the booger up further. Since the end is so big, when I stick it in her nose, it automatically closes the tweezer so there's not much space between the two prongs.

Maybe my kid has extraordinarily small nostrils, I don't know. But she's 95th percentile in height and weight so it's not like she's a small baby.

These sometimes CAN work and will grab a boogie (and occasionally pull out some snot with it) but they could be improved greatly. They don't work very often.

Note: even if these work better for you than they did for me, it will not take the place of some kind of aspirator. If your kid gets sick and and is congested, you WILL need to suck the snot out of her nose somehow. I kept debating on whether to get the Nosefrida since my daughter was born, but when she finally got a cold and it developed into an ear infection when she was just under 5 months old, I went out and bought a Nosefrida from local store out of desperation. I was able to get SOOOOOO much snot out and it truly helped her breathe better. These tweezers were no help in that situation. Oh man, sucking snot out of a kid with an ear infection is sooooo heartbreaking though it must really hurt their ear but it just has to be done :(

My baby is 4 months old and I have used this precious little instrument at least every other day since I got it 2 months ago. I now have compiled a baby nose cleaning kit that I have found to be extremely useful:

1. Little Noses saline drops one or two drops in each nostril loosens those stubborn things and makes the rest of the job a cinch

2. Baby Comfy Nose nasal aspirator better than its competitor (can't say the name but it's the one with the blue tube) because it is so much easier to suck. My baby used to cry when I used the other one, but she seems to really prefer the degree of suction of this one.

3. Bulb nasal aspirator because of its longer tip, this is sometimes helpful for the occasional booger that is lodged farther up the nostril

4. TWEEZERS many times, sucking is just not enough. Tweezers to the rescue! I use them in conjunction with a gentle LED light that I can aim up her nostril makes booger removal infinitely easier and more efficient.

People's body chemistry is different, and so I'm not surprised folks have different responses to this. I've been using Biotene Gum (and toothpaste) for almost 6 years now. As soon as I pop in a piece and crunch for the first time, my mouth enzymes respond with RELIEF!

We bought this mattress for our 2-year old's "big kid" room. He has been in it for about a week, and we love it. No noticeable smell or off-gassing, even right out of the packaging. Ella's Kitchen Organic Baby Food Carrots Apples and Parsnips -- 3.5 fl oz

I really wanted to like this product. I am trying to feed my 6 month old baby a variety of foods so he hopefully will not end up a picky eater, but we follow the "4 day wait" rule because my husband & I have some food allergies/sensitivities. I often cook homemade food but since I work, I appreciate the convenience of organic pre-made food. Our son had already eaten apples & carrots with no problem. What I missed in not reading the packaging (my fault I know) is that in addition to carrots, apples, and parsnips, this product also contains lemon juice. I happen to be sensitive to all citrus fruits. Obviously I'm not sure if it was the lemon juice or parsnip or what, but my son was quite sick for 2-3 days after the one time he ate this product. Blowing out his diaper every hour kind of sick. We are going to save the remaining containers we had purchased for when my son is a year old and hopefully by then any food sensitivities will have worn off. He gagged on the taste, though, so we will see. I gave it two stars instead of one because I plan on trying it again in six months.

I personally think that "stage 1" is misleading, because of the lemon juice additive. I certainly wouldn't give this to a 4 month old. Although I think most infants don't have a problem with citrus, it is not unheard of in causing digestive distress because of the high acidity. I also wanted to point out how important it is to read food packaging labels, because even if something implies specific ingredients on the front, there may be additional additives. I wish Amazon would post the ingredients on here.

This stuff is garbage and Ella's Kitchen should be ashamed for false advertising. I was really surprised to see a fruit-veggie product like this one had so much calcium (20%) on the package compared to most of the other baby fruits out there (usually 0-2% unless veggies or yogurt's added in) and chose this over other products, thinking the extra calcium would be worth the extra $ for my baby in the long run. When you check it against Ella's website, it HAS NO CALCIUM%! Same goes for all the other stage 1 Ella's fruits (butternut squash, carrots, apples, prunes: 30% calcium on package but 2% on the website, peaches and bananas 10% calcium on package vs. 0% on website all the same serving size) -there were other differences too in protein, iron, etc. It does cost a lot more than some of the other organic baby fruits out there and tastes awful. If your baby is just as content with the other less expensive organic baby fruits out there, go with the cheaper alternative because nutrition wise, Ella's no better!

What a disgusting marketing ploy by Ella's Kitchen to get parents to choose their products because it is falsely more nutritious when it's the same as other organic baby fruits in terms of nutritional value.

My daughter has tried nearly all the Ella, Sprout and Happy Baby varieties and this is one of her absolute favorites. She especially loves it ice cold. She is 8 mos old with 4 teeth and seems to prefer the texture of the Ellas as well as the stage 2 Sprout meals (not a huge fan yet of the stage 3 much chunkier Sprout meals but like the Happy Tot ones)Today, she was sucking one down on the go in the infant carrier and in trying to avoid getting it all over me, I licked off some extra and man, this has a pretty pronounced parsnip flavor (a little on the radish side but not spicy) carrot is easily tasted. Not nearly as good as some other flavors I love and she doesnt seem one way or the other about but SHE LOVES IT!!! I wish they sold boxes of it on amazon, which is how I buy the Sprout meals.

Munchkin Baby Food Grinder

I purchased this item and then came home and read the reviews. I almost returned it, and then decided to give it a shot. I'm glad I did. Most of the other reviewers complained that it leaked. It does, but I just sit it in the sink to grind. Then there were complaints of the force you have to use to grind the food. I don't think that's the case at all. I think the key is the grinding motion. You have to push down on the green plastic part while grinding with your other hand. If it becomes hard to push, you simply keep grinding until it becomes easier to push. I believe most people are trying to grind it too fast. Also, I believe some of the complaints are because people aren't using food that has already been cooked. If you want to grind up a food such as squash, it is common sense, I think, that the food be cooked until soft. I just ground up cooked corn that was cut off the cob, and it ground up great.

Also, I think the thing to keep in mind with this product is price. It is only $10!

I feel that for under $10, you are getting a great product that does what it is supposed to do: grind up cooked foods in quantities suitable for feeding to a baby.

I really really like this product. The poor reviews seem to be from people who are not using it correctly and quite possibly did not read the directions to clear up their issues. I purchased this product 2nd hand, so it was well-used before me and by me as well.

#1 I have never seen metal shavings in our food nor have I had trouble with rust. I have hand washed it as well as put it in the dishwasher.

#2 The grinder plate/handle portion is EASY to remove. There is a knob at the top (blue in the picture) that you can tighten to prevent the handle from rotating. Once this is locked, it is quite easy to twist the grinder plate/handle piece out of the green plastic portion. This knob will also allow the handle to rotate faster or slower as needed, perhaps solving the problem that others mentioned about their wrists being sore from using this product. Also a problem that I have never had.

#3 I haven't ever had the base leak, there is a rubber seal that goes all around the "plunger" part that keeps liquid from leaking out.

#4 I have never had it "fall apart" while grinding. I suspect that this could happen if you do not have the grinder plate portion fully tightened into the green plastic base. Again, this could be achieved by fully tightening the knob at the top of the grinder plate/handle portion before trying to attach it to the base.

#5 This is for making baby food, not grinding hard foods. The food needs to be cooked until soft, except for some fruits which are already soft, before being run through the grinder.

#6 Yep, it is small-ish, makes ~1 portion at a time, which is perfect for early solids eaters and when you want to share table foods versus preparing large batches of food at once.

Overall, I love this grinder. I would definitely recommend it, we use it almost daily and couldn't be happier with the performance, which is why I just typed the longest review EVER!!! LOL

This grinder is difficult to use. First, you need to assemble it and then load in the food to be ground, then put the grinding part on top and twist it to secure it on the chute. If your food is too tough, the grinder doesn't do anything, and any force you might use to press down on the grinder may result in the grate popping off and the food flying everywhere. My husband and I tried to use it on meat, which required one of us to push down, and the other to turn the grinder. Once you've done that, then the instructions say to simply remove the grinding plate (grate) and the handle. The grinding plate is impossible to remove as the force of turning and pressing down on it makes it screwed in so tight, you can't remove the grate unless you use an icepick or the tine of a metal fork to loosen it. The handle to turn the grinder is very small and hard to use. Your hand gets really tired and sore.

We discovered that putting the metal blade on upside down (with the flat part not against the grate) did a better job of moving the food upwards to the grate.

Also, if your food is overly moist or wet, the grinder leaks at the bottom.

I must also mention that there are a lot of parts to wash and some are small, they sometimes get lost in the sink or drying rack.

I believe Kidco has a manual grinder too, that has a bigger handle. We haven't tried it since we gave up on manual grinders. I also tried the Bella Cucina (like the Magic Bullet), which was the worst thing ever as plastic shavings from the lid went into the food from the edge of the cup. Each time you screw on the lid, the sharp lip of the cup would create little shavings from the lid (which is colored plastic) that sometimes fell into the ground up food.

I ended up getting a Cuisinart SmartStick with the chopper bowl accessory, and that worked fine. I also have the Kitchenaid stand mixer and had the food grinder attachment as a gift. We used that it grind mass quantities of meat that we froze so that we would have meat on hand. We would grind one whole rotisserie chicken (deboned) twice, and then package the loosely ground chicken in ziploc bags and freeze them. Then we would simply take one bag out and leave it in the fridge to thaw so she would have some meat to mix with soft cooked veggies. Any parent knows how difficult it is to ensure your baby gets the right amount of protein each day.

Awesome little contraption! I'm a stickler for homemade baby food--I've never bought a jar (though I used baby food pouches on a very long airplane trip once). This little thing makes it so easy! And it's really easy to clean (with a brush). We use it 4 times a day to feed our 11-month-old, whose meals typically comprise a finger food appetizer, ground up entrees, and dessert of chopped up and pureed fruits. On a typical day, breakfast is a handful of blueberries, three or four blackberries, two strawberries, and 1/2 a banana milled together with three tablespoons of oatmeal cereal. It takes 5 minutes and the texture beats hand blending out of the water. Lunch and dinner entrees would be a seasonal veggies, protein, and pasta, rice, or quinoa, and other grains. Examples are roasted sweet potato milled up with some garlic, cumin, and millet or barley, or boiled milled peas and quinoa, or star pasta (ground in the mill) and homemade pureed pasta sauce. The mill does an awesome job with chicken, too--and I've tried it with pork sausage and lamb. Works beautifully. (Whoever said the food needs to be cooked soft is not using it properly. You've got to put some pressure on it, but churn slowly.Most everything we grind is raw) Desserts are whatever's fresh and in season : Mangoes, papaya, kiwi, peaches, nectarines, berries, pears, plums are fruits that stand up well to milling. (Mine doesn't leak--maybe white little collar hasn't been replaced properly? I can see how that can be annoying, though.)This, we pair with cut up grapes, and berries, or little apple pieces. I particularly love the Munchkin mill on trips--we just spent a month in Africa, and getting our baby's breakfast, dinner, and lunch in restaurants was 100 easier and better than giving him jarred stuff. All we really needed to take were the baby cereals: rice, oatmeal, millet and quinoa flakes. Using it so often and having traveled with it, it still works well--which is a super-bonus because it was less than $10. Love this thing!

The small parts are too difficult to use and clean, and the grinder only works if the food is **very soft** (already soft enough to feed in small bites to our 6-9 month old) or if you push down on the top cylinder *very hard*. I could not make it work. Seems like the force I had to put on it just pushed the food through the grate--I couldn't tell that rotating the grinder did anything useful. One of the wand-style food blenders which comes with a mini chopper did the trick for us.
