Naturepedic Organic Cotton Cradle Pad

Naturepedic Organic Cotton Cradle PadThis mattress fits perfect in our bed-side cradle. It is very firm as all newborn mattresses should be and the fact that the materials used to make it are safe and non toxic for my little girl are a huge bonus. Overall it is an excellent mattress.

We have Naturepedic mattresses for our cradle and for our crib. They are the only mattress line that healthychild.org recommends and Naturepedic has wonderful products. The toxicity of mattresses today are appalling. Conventional mattresses have toxic flame retardants, antimony, arsenic and formaldehyde. Naturepedic is a godsend and their customer service is excellent. We have ordered custom sized waterproof pads and organic sheets through them and they were sent super fast. They even make them a little bigger to allow for shrinkage during washing and drying. I am glad that we have purchased this cradle pad for our daughter because it is a healthier option for our little miracle.

We have a cradle and it was hard to find a FIRM cradle mattress. We purchased a naturepedic crib mattress but for the first few months, the baby will be sleeping in a cradle. I didn't want to spend close to $100 on this but at the end, peace of mind and knowing our baby is sleeping on a firm and safe mattress was well worth the extra investment. I'm glad we took the plunge because we haven't looked back at our decision.

After ten nights of use, our Naturepedic Organic Cotton Cradle Mattress is ruined. It was destroyed by a single accident by baby, which the supposedly waterproof mattress absorbed like a sponge. Our attempts to wipe and wash the mattress just added more water to the mattress core...it is now a nasty sodden mess. I think mold will overtake it before we can actually get it to dry out.

The product description is a complete lie: "Waterproof organic cotton cover luxurious organic cotton fabric with a clear 100% polyethylene food-grade waterproof coating; non-allergenic and easy-to-clean"

I'm really disappointed. The thin plastic coating just traps water, it doesn't keep it out.

Earth's Best Organic 2nd Corn & Butternut Squash, 4-Ounce Jars (Pack of 12)

Earth's Best 2nd Corn & Butternut Squash, 4 OunceMy 7-month old really likes this flavor, but more importantly, it is one of the healthier varieties of the Earth's Best 2nd foods. We've tried several of the flavors, and while we're impressed overall with the nutrition, consistency, and flavor of the brand, this is our favorite because of the low sugar content. Some of the other flavors have up to 18 grams of sugar per jar (which is okay once in a while), but this one has only 3 grams of sugar making it a staple in our pantry.

Other low-sugar flavors include Earth's Best Organic Strained, Carrots, 4 Ounce Jars (Pack of 12), Earth's Best 2nd Seasonal Harvest Sweet Potato Cinnamon, 4 Ounce (Pack of 12), Earth's Best Organic 2nd, Sweet Potato and Chicken Dinner, 4-Ounce Jars (Pack of 12), Earth's Best 2nd Gourmet Meals, Creamy Chicken Apple Compote, 4 Ounce (Pack of 12), and Earth's Best Organic 2nd Winter Squash, 4 Ounce Jars (Pack of 12).

My 7.5 month old is not into textures just yet and she also doesn't like things that are too thick either. This flavor is a bit runny in comparison to the other flavor she loves -Spinach & Potato -but she loved this on the very first try and ate the entire jar in one sitting. Whoohoo!! I've tried to add just a bit of rice cereal to this to thicken it up a bit and it still maintains that corn & butternut squash flavor.

Nutrition Facts from label:

Calories 70, Protein 9%, Vitamin A 40%, Vitamin C 0%, Calcium 4%, Iron 2%

I've read reviews that complained about the poor packaging and inconsistent qualities between jars but I've had no problems with either. My jars arrive nicely bubble-wrapped and each is in perfect condition.

As a stage 2 food for babies with few or no teeth, this makes a terrific accompaniment to the rice and lentil jars or the fruit jars or yogurt that we feed the baby at a meal. It helps to get him some veggies in addition to the more filling rice/ grain meals that we give him. He is 17 months old and has few teeth yet, so the texture of this jar works great as well.

My son is pretty picky when it comes to knowing what he likes/doest like but he LOVED this food. I bought one at the grocery store (to test before buying in bulk) and he gobbled it down (he kept his mouth open for more even after I was done).

I will be adding this to my "yes" foods to buy in bulk :)

My 7 month old really like this blend. It seems to me that you can taste corn better that squash in this combination, and it's more on the sweeter sidethat's what babies like best.

Earth's Best Organic 2nd Apple & Blueberry, 4-Ounce Jars (Pack of 12)

Earth's Best Organic 2nd Apple & Blueberry, 4-Ounce JarsI got the subscription and finally ended it after 7 occasions of broken jars in the delivery. I got tired of cleaning the mess and dealing with broken glass but the product is good even if watery.

My babies love blueberries the most and over time they like pears and apples a lot too. This is a clear winner with them as it has only organic apples, organic blueberries and ascorbic acid. It's a great product.

Be warned that your shipment could arrive sometimes with broken jars. I already said that! Over time I figured out it would cost the vendor too much to package these jars well enough to ensure no breakage. When a case arrived with one or more broken jars, I reported and got credited for the broken ones only. Of course it's messy when a jar is broken.

I feed both my kids Earth's Best brand baby/toddler food when I am unable to prepare food myself. All flavors have a short list of ingredients, good flavor and a nice nutrition profile.

I usually wrap these jars in a ziplock bag with a baby spoon and stash in the diaper bag for wholesome food on the go. I like to feed my toddler what my husband or I eat, but it is great having a back-up if she is really not hip to the entree.

Earths Best is the next best thing to mom's cooking ;)

Off label use:

If you are out of oil when making baked goods, like pumpkin muffins, you can add a jar of complimentary flavored baby food in a pinch and they will still come out moist! Happy accidents are worth sharing!

Quality product. I make a lot of my own baby food, but I don't think I could buy organic apples and blueberries for the same price as this baby food, which makes it a good value in my opinion.

my son was not feeling well (probably with a small cold) and the only thing he would eat is this one. Probably because it is light and easy for stomach. He refused other more rich-favor food but ate the whole jar of this.

This 12 pack is cheaper through subscribe & save than it is buying through the grocery store. I love that it's organic. It tastes and smells wonderful and my twins love it, too! haha. Not one jar was broken and they were shipped in an additional inner carton wrapped securely in a tight sheet of huge bubble wrap (the big kind of bubbles). It took a while to unwrap, but I think it's worth it in order to keep the jars from breaking. My second shipment came and no broken jars on that one either!

Gerber Graduates Veggie Pick Ups, 4.5-Ounce (Pack of 8)

Gerber Graduates Veggie Pick Ups - Diced Carrots, 4.5-OunceGreat products, highly reccomend for all babies. Proud to be part of this review to show support of quality products out there in the markets today.

These little toddler meals are simple, easy, and best of all, loved by my little munchkin (17 months old). She lives two hours away with her mother, who is in college, so I send these meals to her apartment so that she has them there, as well as when she's with me (every other week). They may be a little costly and not on a college student's budget, but I'm happy to ensure that my little munchkin has healthy meals that she loves and that make her feel independent (she can feed them to hershelf). The size of the meat and carrots and green beans are perfect for a toddler to pick up with tiny fingers or a spoon and put in their mouth. No "choking" incidents to date.

My 1 year old LOVES carrots. Raw, cooked, mushy, firm, it doesn't matter. This tray has cooked carrots that can be heated up to make warm, slightly firm carrot chunks that she can pick up by herself. She also loves to feed herself and this is perfect to just give to her.

We love the Gerber Graduates. They smell great and taste great, yes I have eaten them too. These are just plain cooked carrots in water. I haven't found anything from this line that she will not eat.

Babys Only Soy Organic Toddler Formula, 12.7-Ounce Canister ( Multi-Pack)

Babys Only Organic Soy Toddler Formula, 12.7 Ounce -- 6 per caseSmells and tastes pleasantly and after we switched to it from the lactose free version our "happy spitter" has been spitting up a lot less...

I read all about the arsenic, but decided that the chance of having traces of it vs. giving my baby formula containing high fructose corn syrup or DHA that has been processed using harsh chemicals is my best option...

Basically there is no perfect formula (nothing like real breast milk, which makes it so very stressful for those of us that have to supplement)

I am grateful for the fact that this company seems to really be trying...

The formula took a little time to come, but it was good. It was also a good price and it was packaged well as usual.

Earth's Best Organic 2nd Pears, (6 months & up), 4 Ounce Jars (Pack of 12)

Earth's Best Organic 2nd Pears,, 4 Ounce JarsEarth's Best makes good baby food that my child likes. However, I am rating their product here as it is available through Amazon. I'm very disappointed, like the other reviewer said, about the very short expiration date.

A few days before I ordered this, the page said it wasn't in stock and that it would be available Sept. 15th. I ordered on the 15th, and it arrived on the 17th as promised with the free 2-day shipping. My case was supposedly the restocked pears, but the expiration date is Nov 09. New stock shouldn't have an expiration date that is only 2 months away, even if it is on sale! In the grocery store, the expiration date usually is 1 or 2 years away.

Earth's Best Pears are our son's favorite of the EB fruits. He has significant feeding delays due to complications as a micro-preemie, but he's always done well with the pears.

We have ordered several cases of the pears from Amazon and have had no problems with expiration dates. All cases have had expiration dates many months from the purchase date.

Earth's best organic food are wonderful if you're on the go and didn't have time to make your baby's food.

The food that was shipped expires in two months! Since it was a good price, I thought I would stock up. If I knew this, I would not have purchased it! The baby food that i purchased last week at our local Whole Foods Market expires in two years.

Now i'm stuck with 48 jars of pears that will expire in two months.

Big fan of the earth's best food in general, but I couldn't get our daughter to eat the pears. Tried it myself, tastes pretty awful, a strong flavor of core rather than fruit. Oh well, all the products can't be good I guess. Highly recommend choosing another Earth's best product.

If you are looking for a healthy alternative to tradtional baby foods, we have found Earth's Best to be great. We read the ingredients and were shocked to find (gasp) actually identifiable food items. The pears, for instance, list something like "organic pears, water" as the ingredients instead of partially hydrogenated something or other... Great product.

Bright Beginnings Organic Powder - 23.2 oz

Bright Beginnings Organic Powder - 23.2 ozMy wife, child, and I have been very satisfied with this product. We are primarily feeding with breast milk, but we are supplementing with formula. We knew that we had to make sacrifices by including formula in our baby's diet, but we wanted to find the best formula we could. Thus far we have been happy with "Bright Beginnings Organic." We looked at Similac's organic formula, but we were turned off by this NYTimes article.

After researching Bright Beginnings, I found this write-up particularly helpful in making my decision:

In practice, we have not noticed a lot of gas with this formula, and our baby shows no hesitation in taking this formula. I will say that I see a bit more gas when I get lazy and shake the bottle to mix the formula rather than stirring it but I can't blame the product for this.

Thus far, we are very happy with this product, and we feel good about our choice for now.

We adopted a newborn & I researched high & low to find an organic formula for our little one. I have been very pleased with Bright Beginnings. I only wish I could purchase it at my local organic store.

Would have given 5 stars as it's a great formula. But, my daughters baby needed a formula with better protein breakdown for gas so she had to switch to Enfamil gentle ease. If Bright Beginnings had a formula similar we would have gone with that one.

We tried all the organic dairy based formulas and this one was slightly gritty. It kind of separated in the bottle, so when my baby got to the end, there was a pile of mush in the bottle. We ended up not having luck with store prepared formula because there is just too much iron in it. We have since resorted to making her formula from scratch which she does really well with and digests fine. If you are interested, check out the Weston A Price Foundation for the recipe.

Although our baby had no problems eating it, we did notice some increased fussiness in the hours after feeding her this formula (compared to breast milk feedings). Both milks were fed out of the same bottles, so that is probably not the source of the difference.

From an aesthetic standpoint, this formula stays really gritty after mixing and foams quite heavily. I'm unsure if this is what contributed to the fussiness, but that possibility exists.

We ended up switching to Earth's Best organic formula. It is more expensive, but foams less, isn't gritty and doesn't result in post-feeding fussiness. Unlike the Bright Beginnings formula, the Earth's Best is verging on indistinguishable from breast milk in the bottle, with a similar smell and taste.

Other than the fussiness, however, we didn't notice any increase in constipation or spit-up with the Bright Beginnings formula, and it is cheaper the the EB brand.

Rather than dump the remaining powder, we plan to start mixing this in with mashed foods around 4-6 months.

RSVP Endurance Stainless Steel Food Mill

RSVP Endurance Stainless Steel Food MillBelow is the text of my OXO Good Grips Food Mill review. I am also posting it here since it is relevant to people considering the RSVP product since this was the product I compared it to.

---

I compared the OXO Food mill with the RSVP mill online before purchasing. I first went with the RSVP product based strictly on price (since the ratings were essentially the same). The first thing I made was Tomato Sauce/marinara wherein I cooked tomatoes with garlic, herbs, and Olive oil and passed them through the mill. Immediately, I saw there was a LOT of waste with the RSVP mill. The food would just spin around in the top of the mill and not be passed through the holes in the metal disc (coarsest disc used). I shook the thing, ran the crank in the opposite direction to move the food around and reposition it. took out my wooden spoon to 'help' the mill by breaking down the tomatoes more. bit by bit, more and more food got processed but despite all my efforts, I would estimate 10-15 percent of the tomatoes just wouldn't go through, even after 5-10 minutes of cajoling. Let me make something clear here. These tomatoes were canned Marzano tomatoes which had ALREADY BEEN PEELED AND SEEDED they practically crush themselves. It seemed to me that since the 'bad' stuff the mill was designed to remove was already gone , every bit of these tomatoes should gone through. I had a similar experience with my applesauce attempt using the medium disc. A lot of wasted apples and a rather meager (though delicious!) yield of applesauce.

I'd never owned a Food Mill before and just thought this was how they worked...

I was browsing Sur La Table one afternoon and they had the OXO mill out on display. The disks caught my eye. They were not just discs with holes cut in them, but were actually shaped to allow the food to pass through them. The holes were raised slightly, almost like the blades of a cheese grater. You could tell by looking at them that much more food would be crushed and pushed through. So I came home and ordered the OXO mill from Amazon as well.

Night and day.

On my marinara test as well as the applesauce test, the OXO mill ran circles around RSVP. All of the tomatoes went through and the resulting marinara had an excellent texture not soupy in the least. I cranked less than 2 minutes. The applesauce was perfect as well and the Mill worked as promised removing the peels and the seeds. In both cases, the yield was much higher.

To me, the only thing I think the RSVP mill has going for it is the looks and general quality of construction. It is heavy stainless steel and all of the parts will clearly last a lifetime. It has a distinctly professional/industrial look and feel to it. The OXO has a good weight to it, and it definitely feels like it is well made, but there are some plastic parts (most notably the 'quick release' mechanism for attaching the crank) which leaves me with the lingering feeling that someday, years in the future, this will have to be replaced.

Still, I would highly recommend the OXO Good Grips Food Mill to anyone in the market for a food mill for home use. If/When it does fail, I will not hesitate to buy another one (unless of course, it breaks down in like a week (doubtful))

This item is attractive in its appearance and design. However, it is difficult to use for canning tomato juice.

This mill lacks the wire that dispenses with the pulp on the underneath side which is very much needed for such an application. It also seems to be lacking tension in the rotary portion of the blade and therefore leaves a lot of juice and pulp resulting in waste and a less rich canned product.

From having used many in the past, I immediately noticed these disparities and overall it is a product for very lightweight tasks in my opinion.

Buy RSVP Endurance Stainless Steel Food Mill Now

This item was promptly delivered. The heavy-duty stainless construction should last a lifetime. A comfortable wooden handle is secured by an outer stainless handle to the bowl. Three included disks (fine, medium, coarse) install quickly. A large, rotating, stainless steel knob on the operating handle fits the palm and makes for easy operation. Appearance is certainly nice enough to hang in the open.

With an eight-inch diameter and approximately 2-1/2 quart bowl, the size seems right for preparing meals for 1 8. Those preparing a gallon or more at a time may want a larger mill.

Read Best Reviews of RSVP Endurance Stainless Steel Food Mill Here

The food mill is well built but tiny. Well, tiny may be a superlative.

Based on the size of the tomatoes, it appears that you could place about 8-10 tomatoes inside to process. Instead, three normal sized tomatoes or maybe 4-Roma tomatoes will just about fill up the basket/hopper.

The size is promoted at about 2-1/2 quarts, however, I would estimate this to hold about 3 cups. Beyond that and it starts to overflow, especially when occasionally you back it up to clear the skins and seeds from the sieve.

On the positive side, it is a solidly built tool, ready to to take the seeds out of chokecherry so I can make some more wine.

Gerber Graduates Fruit Splashers - Apple Berry RTD, 40.5-Ounce (Pack of 4)

Gerber Graduates Fruit Splashers - Apple Berry RTD, 40.5-OunceMy daughter asks for juice often, so it was important to me that I find a low-sugar juice for her. I'm not sure how vitamin-rich these are (I'll have to check), but they have a lower sugar quantity than other juices I've bought at the grocery store. I took a sip and did not like this drink, but my toddler loves it! Works for us!

Thinkativity Imagine and Learn Musical Mixer

Thinkativity Imagine and Learn Musical MixerMy 2 year old daughter absolutely loves this toy! She is a whiz at it. She plays with it for hours. She is so excited when she plays this. She got it last year for her birthday and is still playing with it 6 months later. It so cute. It helped her learn different foods and words. If she can't find the right thing to make one of the recipes, it gives her hints to find the right food groups...helping her learn her colors too! I can't say enough good things about this toy! If I could I would nominate it for a toy of the year award!

We were very excited about this toy a relative who is a chef gave it to my 2 1/2 year old daughter for Christmas 2009. The toy seemed to work, in that it responds when the child puts the different pieces in the mixer. However after hearing my child get lots of "try again" type responses, I tried it myself. It didn't work as intended. The toy doesn't recognize the pieces/foods well. A third of the time it doesn't "see" a piece at all, a third of the time it thinks it's a different food, and a third of the time it correctly "sees" the food. Because of this, it is impossible to play the game of making certain foods by mixing and matching the pieces.

It was also difficult to tell if you were pushing the pieces in properly sometimes it would respond just to lightly push them into the spot, other times you'd have to push hard until it clicked in. How the item was pushed in did not improve the toy's accuracy at "seeing" the foods.

I would have given this one star, but since I didn't follow up with the manufacturer, I will give it a little benefit of the doubt that we just had a defective toy.

Playtex Snack Bowls with Twist N Click - Color May Vary

Playtex 2 Count Snack Bowls with Twist N ClickI have 5 this Bowls. Dont have 2 worry about Leaking so I'm happy with this BOWLS!! i'm gonna buy some more 4 my friend 2~

I love love love love love love . . . love these bowls. They are made out of heavy-duty, BPA-free plastic that, even when I sterilize them or use the in the microwave, I don't feel is leaching all sorts of nasty chemicals into my baby's food. I have been using them daily for at least a few months and have not yet had a leak problem. It is a bit of a mission to get the lids on and off (which, honestly, was part of the allure for me) and sometimes it strains my wrists a bit. If you have any sort of wrist problems, these are not the bowls for you. However, I love being able to throw a bowl full of puree into my diaper bag and not have to worry with leakage. These are the best, most economical thing I've been able to find that fits my needs perfectly.
