Green Eats Tabletop Set

Green Eats Tabletop SetI recently decided to junk of all our melamine kids dishes due to the fact I'm just not sure they are safe. I bought four of these sets for my two kids. They own the play dishes and other toys, so I already knew I loved the company (great customer service), the fact that they are made from recycled milk jugs, and the bright colors. I have yet to buy anything from them I'm not completely thrilled with.

That being said, these are no exception. The plastic is thick and very sturdy. You can't bend it. The colors are super bright and cheerful. They look adorable stacked in the cabinet. They hold up very well in the dishwasher, even on the bottom. No warping, fading, etc. and everything comes out spotless. Plus, they are the perfect size for kids.

I cannot find anything negative to say. A week after I bought the first four sets, I came back and bought two more. Next I'm going to buy the divided plates for my youngest.

Please note: these are not microwave safe, but you shouldn't microwave plastic anyway, so it really doesn't matter in my opinion.

I purchased this set to replace smaller plastic tableware I use when my grandchildren visit. This is just one great product from a US company that has many. Made in the USA from recycled milk jugs and in environment friendly packaging ... 5 Star all the way. The dishes are great and their story gives my three granddaughters and me a chance to discuss Earth Friendly and US worker friendly choices! I am ordering more today ... need another set of dishes for each ...for times when they are here for multiple meals w/o using dishwasher in between.

I really like this set, except for the fact that they are not microwave safe. I make oatmeal for my daughter using the microwave every morning and I intended to use the bowl for this purpose.

Besides that I really like these items, in fact I just ordered more of the cups.

Love the colors and how heavy feeling the pieces are. Still light enough for him to pick up, but not flimsy. Also love that they go into the dishwasher.

I like that this company is making safer plastic dinnerware for children. It is a step up. However, no one is thinking about what the plastic is made out of aside from BPA, phthalates, melamine, PVC, or other harmful synthetics. These are just some that have been brought out into the open, there are likely more that haven't been tested yet. There is one obvious problem with this plastic that everyone is overlooking (the rage is all about BPA mainly right now), and that is the fact that the main ingredient to make this plastic is petroleum. I'm not convinced that these are "green" dishes being that #2 plastic does not break down in the environment and petroleum...well I can't imagine eating food off of solidified/modified petroleum. Not to mention the other synthetics that have yet to be mentioned. #2 plastic is considered one of the safest plastics, but considered doesn't mean guaranteed safe. There are better options out there (especially for the current high price of these!). Stainless steel and tempered glass dinnerware for kids are alternatives to plastic. Stainless steel might be a better bet for very young children since even tempered glass can break if impacted hard enough. Plastic is plastic, some are better than others, but all plastic has its hazards. Let's face it, we wouldn't be looking at "Green Eats" dishware if we weren't concerned about what our children are eating off of.
