RECONSIDER THIS FORMULA!!

Martek advertises this formula on their website!

"Although Martek told the board that they would discontinue the use of the controversial neurotoxic solvent n-hexane for DHA/ARA processing, they did not disclose what other synthetic solvents would be substituted. Federal organic standards prohibit the use of all synthetic/petrochemical solvents".

Martek Biosciences was able to dodge the ban on hexane-extraction by claiming USDA does not consider omega-3 and omega-6 fats to be "agricultural ingredients." Therefore, they argue, the ban against hexane extraction does not apply. The USDA helped them out by classifying those oils as "necessary vitamins and minerals," which are exempt from the hexane ban. But hexane-extraction is just the tip of the iceberg. Other questionable manufacturing practices and misleading statements by Martek included:

Undisclosed synthetic ingredients, prohibited for use in organics (including the sugar alcohol mannitol, modified starch, glucose syrup solids, and "other" undisclosed ingredients)

Microencapsulation of the powder and nanotechnology, which are prohibited under organic laws

Use of volatile synthetic solvents, besides hexane (such as isopropyl alcohol)

Recombinant DNA techniques and other forms of genetic modification of organisms; mutagenesis; use of GMO corn as a fermentation medium

Heavily processed ingredients that are far from "natural"

This is the latest I have found on DHA in organic and non organic baby food/ formula:

Martek's patents for Life'sDHA states: "includes mutant organisms" and "recombinant organisms", (a.k.a. GMOs!) The patents explain that the oil is "extracted readily with an effective amount of solvent ... a preferred solvent is hexane."

The patent for Life'sARA states: "genetically-engineering microorganisms to produce increased amounts of arachidonic acid" and "extraction with solvents such as ... hexane." Martek has many other patents for DHA and ARA. All of them include GMOs. GMOs and volatile synthetic solvents like hexane aren't allowed in USDA Organic products and ingredients.

Tragically, Martek's Life'sDHA is already in hundreds of products, many of them certified USDA Organic. Please demand that the National Organic Standards Board reject Martek's petition, and that the USDA National Organic Program inform the company that the illegal 2006 approval is rescinded and that their GMO, hexane-extracted Life'sDHA and Life'sARA are no longer allowed in organic products.

BUT I went to the lifesdha website and THEY DO NOT DISCLOSE HOW THEY MAKE THEIR LifesDHA!!! I have contacted the company to see what they say.

Also these are the corporate practices of Martek which are damaging to the environment as well written just last Dec 2011 at NaturalnewsDOTcom

The best bet is to just avoid the lifeDHA at this time in my opinion b/c corporate america cares more about the almighty $ than your health.

UPPAbaby Vista Snack Tray, Clear

I actually have a Britax B Ready stroller, not the Uppababy Vista. Britax doesn't make a snack tray. The seat size and belly bar mechanism on the Vista and B-Ready are so similar that I thought I'd give this a try. Works brilliantly! Fits perfectly into where you would attach the belly bar. There is a button on the part of the stroller the belly bar attaches to that you push to release the tray. The tray is a little high (on my 1 1/2 year old the tray is closer to chest height), but works great. Like the older model vistas, probably should only use in the upright position (position 1). May be okay in position 2, but definitely wouldn't work when fully reclined (position 3).

Regarding the holder in general, I love how easy it is to snap out of its frame and clean the tray after each use. So simple! Also easy to swing one side out to load your child.

Note: The instructions do say this is only sold for Vista models, so this is not an intended use.

Looking for a snack tray that would fit my Britax B-Ready I found a couple reviews that this tray worked. I am SO glad I went ahead with the purchase. It fits like it was made for the B-Ready. As a bonus, I really, really like that the tray pops out for a good cleaning :)

Got this for my Vista thinking that there was no way I could adapt it to my G Luxe and how sad it would be to have to buy a second, inferior product for our umbrella stroller. How happy I was to find that it came with clip on connectors made to adapt the tray for the Cruz, and that those clips work perfectly with the G Luxe. It closes with the clips attached, although you do need to remove the tray. Solves all my problems!!!

I had a hard time figuring out whether to give this 3 or 4 stars. It serve's the intended purpose just fine but I feel like charging close to $40 for an item that many strollers half the price of the UppaBaby include standard is a bit much.

It snaps in and comes out easy. The cup holder actually serves as a holder for his snack container at the moment. We've used this a few times so far but have found that as our son gets older he spends more time in carts than his stroller. We held off on this accessory for a long time after purchasing the stroller and both my wife and I both agreed that this wasn't worth the cost.

LunchSkins Reusable Sub Bags for Large Sandwiches - 2 Pack

Like the other reviewers, I purchased these bags to reduce my use of disposable plastic bags. Little did I know how many other beneficial aspects I would find:

Less bulky and easier to keep chilled in the lunch bag than plastic Zip lock type containers (my first attempt to eliminate plastic bags).

Easier to just wipe clean with a dishcloth, soap and water than my plastic containers.

Less space occupying in the dishwasher! Multiple plastic containers take up a LOT of dishwasher space.

They do not flip over in the dishwasher to catch water as plastic containers are prone to do!

They are GREAT for such things as grapes, apple slices, etc. as well as the sandwiches.

The sub size bag easily holds a chicken breast half (if you are like me and,at the very last minute try to grab the healthiest thing in the refrigerator that can be packaged quickly this can be a real plus!

Totally worth the cost! Strong, durable, and truly dishwasher safe. I use them at work every day and just wipe them off, and at the end of the work-week I wash in dishwasher. Have done this for months and it's held up wonderfully. Was worried it would leak, as I use tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers in sandwiches, but it does not leak. Totally worth it, do not have to buy plastic bags again. Love it.

Boon Pulp Silicone Feeder

The boon pulp is great I used other similar products made of mesh but they were to hard to open and by the time you had them opened your baby didn't want them and they were really hard to clean and after a while they started to smell. But over al they were a good idea just bad execution of the product. Boon's pulp is great, my daughter and I love it!

I wanted to love this, but I've only used it a handful of times. Although I've read the silicone feeders are so much easier to clean than the mesh ones, I have a hard time cleaning this one. Some foods clean easier than others, but almost every time I take it out of the dish washer I still have to hand wash it including using a tiny brush to get the food out of the holes. I know its not my dishwasher b/c it does a great job with everything else. Needless to say, it sits in a drawer mostly. I also feel like the mouth piece is a little big for my daughters mouth even at 8 months.

Came across this and several other silicone feeders when looking for a solution to the mesh food feeders widely available (Munchkin 2 Pack Fresh Food Feeder, Colors May Vary), which to me anyway, were impossible to clean and which I considered disposable. I did order several silicone feeders including:

I really do like the Boon silicone feeder, the ergonomic handle is easy for my baby to grasp, and the holes are big enough that whatever you put in there doesn't actually have to be pureed. I usually put a strawberry or banana ("slippery" foods that my 11 month old can't pick up), and he will chew on it for a few hours.

I like the rounder shape better than the other feeders, particularly the Kids me feeder, which is much longer and thinner.

Clean up is easy, just rinse and dry, and the snap on/off silicone part is fantastic.

Would buy again.

green sprouts 7 Ounce Sippy Tumbler

My son just turned 1 and has been using the Pura Stainless Steel Sippy which comes with a silicone sippy spout for about 2 months. I realized it's not really a sippy but just a different shaped nipple that requires slightly less sucking to get the liquid out. I decided to switch him over to a harder spout and that's when my search began.

I have tried:

1. Pura sippy with the harder Avent spout I loved that it's not plastic, has OZ markings inside but it is super heavy when filled with liquid. My son didn't like it. He couldn't figure out how to use it.

2. Life factory glass sippy Again, it's not plastic which is great, has Oz markings on the sleeve and it is super heavy when filled with liquid. He is okay with this one but won't use it for a long time.

3. Vital Baby Toddler 10oz It's plastic, has oz markings, super light, leak proof but my son refused to drink out of it.

4. Thermos Foogo stainless steel sippy 10oz Stainless steel is great, double wall vacuum insulation is awesome (keeps liquid cold for 7 hrs), has no OZ markings. My son likes this but again won't use it for a long time.

Now for the Green Sprout Sippy I was about to give up and told myself that my son was just not ready to move to a hard spout sippy. I figured I was pushing him and decided to keep him on the silicone spout. I forgot I had ordered this a couple of days ago and when it arrived, I didn't expect much. I offered the sippy with water and expected him to push it away; but to my surprise, my son took to it right away! With this sippy, he drinks more water and will gulp down his toddler formula as if this was his bottle! I thought it was just a fluke and offered him milk later and he took it again! I am not sure why he likes this, maybe it's just a coincidence, but it's clear that he prefers this one over all the other sippys. Even his daycare said he has no issues with this one.

Anyways, this sippy has pros and cons, just like any other sippy.

Pros:

1. My son likes it!

2. It has no valve, less parts to clean. It's just the cup and the lid that you snap on.

3. This has no rings on the top portion of the cup, so when your little one is older, you can just use this as a regular cup!

4. Does not leak. The lid snaps on very securely. Your child will NOT be able to open it. Just fold the spout down and your ready to go!

5. Flow is not super fast but fast enough where it requires less sucking to get the liquid out.

6. It's super light and a lot smaller than how it appears in the picture. It's perfect for little hands.

7. Has milliliter markings (better than nothing)

8. It doubles as a toy. After my son is done drinking, I fold the spout down and he shakes it vigorously for his entertainment.

Cons:

1. It's Plastic.

2. No Oz Markings

3. Only holds 7oz

4. Lid is really hard to remove. I am not a petite woman but even I have to admit it's difficult! If you're trying to open the lid with liquid in it. Please do it over the sink until you get good at it!

5. Not leak proof when turned upside down. This must be used under supervision. Only time it will not leak is when the spout is folded down.

6. You will always have a little bit of formula left over due to the location of the spout.

For now my son only uses these so I ordered 4 more. I will try to introduce him to the Life Factory and Foogo Sippy only because they are not plastic and I spent a lot of money for them! For anyone who may be in a similar situation, please give this a try!

Tip: Do not fill over the 200ml line! Otherwise when you press down on the lid to close it, the liquid will shoot out of the spout and into your face!

If you need the milliliter markings, I recommend you buy the green color. The blue is much darker and it is very hard to see the markings.

I agree with EVERYTHING Kamy said before. I will add an additional comment: the cups are STACKABLE. I do not have a very large kitchen and sippy cups become pretty unwieldy. I now have one stack of cups and tops in the corner ready to go. This has saved me a lot of space.

This is so easy to close that it doesn't end up leaking in the lunch box at the end of the day. It doesn't leak and my daughter can flip the top herself at 20 months. No handles means it fits in a bottle pocket of a bag or a cup holder. When you remove the lid it becomes a regular cup with no threads and no wide lip. So you can use it at the table and then stick the lid on when needed.

Love this cup for ALL the reasons other reviewers have given it high marks including the fact that the lid is hard to get off! That means my toddler can't pull it off himself and because it's not a screw-top, it can be used as a regular cup later on. The best thing about this cup is that there are only 2 parts to clean the lid and the cup. No more searching around in the kitchen sink for valves, straws etc. The cup will not leak when the sippy spout is pushed down but when the spout is up and the cup is turned upside down, liquid easily comes out. The only down side with this cup is the size, I wish they made bigger ones, such as a 10oz.

My 10 month old loves these so i thought i would save some $$ and buy a "value pack." I paid $19.95 for four 1oz. packages. Well, after a trip to target today I will not be ordering any more. Target sells these for $2.19 per 1 oz. package. Obviously I feel ripped off.

Ella's Kitchen Organic Baby, 3.5 Ounce Pouches (Pack of 7)

After reading the reviews here stating that the Iron content of Ella's Kitchen Spinach packs was incorrect, I checked out their website to see for myself. Hmm.. no announcement there stating that an error had been made. So, I contacted the company wondering if it was a misunderstanding. No, it's true. The Spinach flavor only has 4-6% DV of Iron... NOT 120% as has been clearly indicated on the pouches I have been buying for my son for OVER A YEAR! I have been purchasing these packs by the case thinking that if my son did not eat enough other Fe-rich foods on a particular day, at least he would eat this. I mean you know how difficult it can be to get little ones to take in enough iron, so I thought this was a great option. IF I HAD KNOWN that it only contained 4 or 6%, then I would have given my son other additional Fe-rich foods or continued making my own purees. I guess I should have known it was too good to be true when I noticed that the first ingredient is in fact APPLES not Spinach as the front of the pouches would have you believe.

What upsets me the most is that there is not even a warning or announcement on Amazon or at Target stores stating that there has been a mistake?!! If the company knows, why isn't this info passed on to the consumer?!!? Here I thought I was purchasing (a more expensive) but also more nutritionally complete product for my baby and to find out it's just as void of nutrients as all of the other brands on the shelves. I really thought this company was exciting and different and focused on kids' nutrition and health. I guess not. I am asking for a refund at the very least. Honestly, the company is lucky if parents don't decide to take up a lawsuit for their negligence in getting the word out. The incorrectly labeled packs should be recalled like anything elsenot left on the shelves to trick parents! Normally, I am not one to overact and am certainly not litigious in the least. Humans (and companies run by humans) make mistakes. It's natural. But as a physcian and a mother, I am really annoyed by the lack of respect shown to consumers in failing to notify the community of this error.

This flavor does not actually contain 120% of daily iron for babies, as still listed on most packaging. This was a grievous error (a "printing error" according to the company). This flavor only contains 6% iron, in the realm of most other baby food pouch products. Unfortunately, this company has failed to pull mislabeled products or notify distributors of the long running error.

Iron content in purple bag is only 2%, NOT 45% as stated on the pouch itself !!!!!!!!!!!

Light green pouch "Rutabagas", contains Iron: 4%, NOT 120% stated on the package itself !!!!!!!

We have fed 2 packs daily: 1 light green "rutabagas" and 1 purple one "pumpkins" to our girl since she was 3.5 month old.

What a disappointment !!! This company should be held accountable for causing anemic, malnutritioned infants.

Wow, I can hardly keep my emotions !!!

We spent two years feeding our iron-deficient son this product only to find out (via a sticker placed atop the old nutritional label) that Ella's Kitchen Spinach Apples + Rutabagas contains very little iron at all.

Have a look for yourself. Here's the old label:

Iron: 120%

Vit C: 15%

Calcium: 70%

Sodium: 20mg

And here's the new one:

Iron : 4%

Vit C: 0%

Calcium: 4%

Sodium: 75mg

In other words, for two years the nutritional label was bogus. What the product actually contained was 1/30th the iron and almost 4 times the salt. This is completely unacceptable and suggests a lack of quality control that makes it very difficult for us to trust Ella's Kitchen's other products and nutritional claims.

We'll be removing them from our shopping list.

I also have been buying these pouches because of their supposed iron content. The broccoli, pears and peas pouch has a label that states it contains 45% of the daily recommended allowance of iron. The sweet potato, pumpkin, apple and blueberry pouch also states on the label that it contains 45% of the daily recommended allowance of iron. This is not true! The company's own website states these pouches only have 2-4% of the daily recommended allowance of iron yet the incorrectly labeled pouches are still on the market. I will not buy from this company again.
