Baby Bullet Complete Baby Care System

Baby Bullet Complete Baby Care SystemFirst, let me say I was looking forward to start using the baby bullet for my daughter at about 4 months. I knew it was going to be a gimmick, but I figured it looked pretty convenient, and my 4 year old niece saw it and wanted us to get it so she could "help" with making the baby food. It truly is easy enough that a supervised four year old can put the short cup into the unit and turn it on and off.

What is included? (in my set anyway)

Six small containers with date dials and lids

A freezer tray/lid for six servings

A batch bowl for larger batches/blender lid

A short cup for smaller batches and use with the milling blade/storage lid

A milling blade for rice/grains/oatmeal

A regular blade for fruits/veggies/protein

A thin spatula

Power Base

Pocket Nutritionist

Cookbook

At first, using the short cup and regular blade, everything was great. The bullet is easy to use, offers helpful suggestions for different foods for each stage, and VERY easy to clean. The storage system is cute, and the dating on the little storage cups was handy when my daughter wasn't eating as much food each day as she is now. I had thought I had found the perfect baby shower gift for my friends and family from now on. Unfortunately, the bubble burst.

When I tried to use the milling blade, it was obvious pretty quickly that when it had been manufactured the plastic on the side of the blade casing had warped and cracked. This made the milling blade unusable, and tore up the sealing gasket when I did attempt to use it.

I contacted baby bullet for a replacement. They gave me a very difficult time about my proof of purchase, as it had been purchased online. Finally I got them to agree to send me a new milling blade (after receiving a lecture about the gasket causing all the problems... what?), and they insisted I pay $3.99 for shipping to replace the milling blade. Uh... no. We discussed the value of good customer service... and let's just say I didn't pay for shipping for the blade. I did receive it about a week after my last call to them.

Now, shame on me for this... but at the time that happened, I didn't check the rest of the pieces. I was annoyed enough at that point and the runaround I was getting, and it simply didn't occur to me.

My daughter is just shy of seven months, and is eating far more food at a sitting. This morning, I decided to try to use the batch bowl for the first time. As soon as I tried to put the lid on the top of the batch bowl, I knew there was a problem: It wouldn't seal. A quick look, and sure enough, both the lid and batch bowl were warped as the milling blade had been, so the lid cannot possibly connect securely to the bowl. This isn't just annoying it's dangerous.

They'll be getting ANOTHER call from me tomorrow. If they replace the parts, I will admittedly keep using the bullet. It earned its two stars from being convenient and easy to use when the products are made properly.

Sorry Baby Bullet... but you need to work on quality assurance on the manufacturing lines. If your product arrived in a usable condition, you'd get a four or five star review from this first time mom. But having to fight with customer service to replace what you just didn't care to make correctly the first time? Yeah... I'll take my business elsewhere, and will be instructing my friends and family not to waste their money, no matter how cute and convenient this product may seem.

New Moms: GET A GOOD QUALITY FOOD PROCESSOR AND STORAGE CONTAINERS THAT WORK FOR YOU! Skip this product. There are enough alternatives out there that will meet and exceed your expectations, don't waste your money.

If you do purchase it, check everything immediately, and before you get rid of the box. Test it all out, and if you have a problem, return the whole thing.

***Update 13 October 2011***

The day after this review was posted, and prior to my calling their customer service, I received a call on my cell phone from Baby Bullet Customer Service. We discussed this issue, as well as another I had discovered -afterposting the review: I found that a couple of lids for the dial cups were beginning to show signs of breaking down, i.e. warping (common trend...) and chipping on the inside lip. The CS rep did say that there were some issues with people putting pieces in the dishwasher, and my set had stated it was dishwasher safe (since changed), that was probably the issue? ...all of the bullet pieces I have have been handwashed only, never in the dishwasher. The product I received is just... poor quality.

We also discussed the smell of the motor in the unit that others have mentioned in other reviews, but we agreed that I should wait to have that replaced, as the motorbase is still functioning well.

The woman who contacted me was very pleasant and helpful, and kept our conversation brief, which was appreciated, as I was at work. She stated that I should receive the items (batch bowl and lids) in the mail in 7-10 days. This was September 26th. Yesterday (2 1/2 weeks after I posted the review) I received the package. The batch bowl as promised, and... TWO dial CUPS. No dial cup LIDS. Sigh. Two of my lids have broken down thus far, it's only a matter of time before more do. I suppose I'll have to wait AGAIN for the two that they've decided I'm allotted this time around, and then as I notice the others break down, contact them and wait an additional two weeks per lid for the replacements?

I will say that it's very clear the quality of the product has improved significantly from my set to the new product; the plastic of the batch bowl is firmer, and is more clear; so some quality issues have been addressed between the production of my set and the production of the replacement parts that were sent. I'd really just like to be able to trust this product and have a set that is safe and... works?

I sent off an email a few minutes ago, and am hoping this is resolved quickly. By the time I have a fully functioning set, my daughter will have outgrown the product.

***Update 7 November 2011***

Emails with Baby Bullet resulted in my receiving four new lids, in two different shipments, a few days after the emails were sent. But, as predicted... my 8 month old daughter no longer wants anything to do with most pureed or blended food. AWESOME.

At least I have serving-size containers to store her chopped & cooked food?

I now have a pretty applesauce and sweet potato maker.

I normally don't write reviews, but there weren't any for this product and being a first time mom myself, I want to make sure someone finds mine very imformative.

So far, I enjoy using my baby magic bullet. I was contemplating between this product and the Baby Baeba and I am so glad I saved the extra money! (I went to Buybuy Baby and used the 20% coupon so 20% off of $59.95 is such a deal!) Granted, the Baeba is also a steamer, but I can steam my own food...the extra step is not a big deal to me as it may be for others. Besides, it's not like you have to use a huge pot...just a medium saucepan is suffice for a whole batch. The only precautions are:

1. Make sure you screw on the base very tightly. I must have not, and the bottom leaked into the actually blender. I didn't wipe it up right away and it dried up in the push-down mechanism of the blender causing it to stick easily. There are 3 "push-down mechanisms" along the rim of the bullet and the problem with it sticking is that, obviously, when you want to stop blending and let go, it can still keep blending until the "push down mechanism" slowly rises up. I just had to clean it up by using a screwdriver to push it up and down until it was "sticky free" again and now it works like new again! (I made sure it was unplugged of course while cleaning).

2. Make sure you DO NOT fill past the max line. There is not a line drawn out, but I must have overfilled it past this imaginary line and when I started to blend with the lid on, it initially spewed out the spout and the sides. this can be bad if the food is still hot. Therefore, I just made sure to wait until the food was cooled down. OR, just make sure you cut the food into small pieces (1/2" x 1/2"). I think when I cut the sweet potato, I sliced them thin rather than cubing them and perhaps that made the blades easier to cut through and causing higher speeds? I'm not sure, but cubing them worked without having to wait for it to cool down. I had a dishcloth over the top too, in case it spewed out.

FYI, for all the 1 stage food babies, make sure you strain the puree before feeding your baby. My pediatrician recommended that to me and I'm glad she did. At first, I didn't think I needed to strain it because the puree looked so smooth and perfect, but low and behold, when I did, there were strings from the pear or parts of the apple core that I though I cut out were filtered out with the strainer. (I used a small metal strainer, the kind you use to sift flour).

One last thing, although it does say that it is TOP RACK dishwasher safe, I haven't tried cleaning these in the dishwasher yet because of fear that my dishwasher will leave soapy residue as it typically does with my tupperware. Perhaps the other reviewer that complained of the materials being cheap, put their components on the bottom rack and that's why it melted? I just pre-rinse them as I put them in the sink so it's not difficult to wash.

Overall, I love this thing and I have fun making my daughter's food. She's been eating solids since 4 months and she eats all of it! I'm going to see if they sell the rubber tray separately so I can freeze more at one time.

I was fortunate enough to recently attend a demonstration of the Baby Bullet as they are being slowly rolled out for sale in stores and although the demo was informative, it was nothing compared to getting the little guy home and putting him to work.

I have two six months old babies in my house who are raring to go for solid foods! So far, thanks to the Baby Bullet, we've hit a bull's eye with avocado, pears and sweet potato. I can't wait to have them try the zucchini I made and froze yesterday for them to try when their three days of sweet potato is done. The bullet is so easy to use and clean up is a breeze. I tried using my food processor, but at this point with the small batches I am making, as they are just trying new foods, it just wasn't up to par. It was too big for the job.

The current retail price, now that they are available in stores (sans the $40 shipping and handling mentioned in the other review), allowed me to purchase two sets for $60 each and if I do come across a problem I'm confident that I can simply return it to the store I purchased it at.

The pop-out freezing molds for storage are just as easy to use as they say. I definitely recommend popping them out into a large bowl or pan. They are slippery little things! They also mentioned in the demo that you can put the little containers in warm water for 20 minutes and they will thaw and be ready to serve, but it took a bit longer. I will go with their other advice of moving the containers intended for the next day into the fridge the night before from now on.

All in all, in the four days I've had my Baby Bullet I have been very pleased. I even used it to make myself some whipped cream for my cocoa, and a fruit smoothie with my four year old! :-)

My son was diagnosed with lead poisoning, and a risk assessor was unable to determine a source in our home. Our water was tested, and we determined that to be a primary source. We tested some products used by our son with a hardware store lead test kit.

The only items to test positive were the Baby Bullet and a lead fishing sinker, which we used as a control. From what I have read, home test kits may give false positives a majority of the time and just a few times may give false positives.

The parts that tested positive were the nuts on the bottom side of each blade component (the green units that insert into the power base) as well as a space between the blades and green plastic, which may come into contact with food.

I got my BB in December 2011. I wonder if it is possible this system could have helped elevate my son's blood lead level?

I called BB and asked how I could get an answer as to whether or not lead parts are used to manufacture the system. I was told to email customer service in order for my concern to be addressed by someone who would know more about the manufacturing process. Several days later, I have not receieved a response. I have been blocked from BB's Facebook page for asking the question: does your product contain lead components?

Several moms I know are very concerned. I'd like an answer. I don't know if all these units were made the same, but I never would have used it had I have known it was made with any lead components.

I've NEVER written a review on a product before. I just found out AFTER feeding my 7 mo old son 3 jars of food from the last batch I made that a piece of the plastic (silicone?) blade disconnected and got chopped up in the food! He's EATEN THIS. I noticed when I was feeding him tonight there was a piece of something hard in his food and I went to check the baby bullet and the ring that connects the base to the blade was all wrapped up around the blade and chopped up. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!

Earth's Best Organic

Earth's Best Organic Infant Formula with Iron, DHA & ARA, 23.2 Ounce CanisterTo be honest, I have never written a review, not matter how good or bad a product I received was. I never had the time and never bothered. Today, I write my very first review of a product that I have been feeding my precious son since birth. He is now 2 years 4 months. I could never breastfeed him exclusively due to bone density loss and I did massive amounts of research and tried out tons of different brands before deciding on this organic formula from Earth's Best and since then, even though he is now a toddler, I still use the Earth's Best infant formula and supplement with other child vitamins.

I was trying to re-order again in bulk from Amazon when I noticed for the first time the controversy over DHA/ARA extraction by the use of toxic hexane of which Hain Celestial which manufactures Earth's Best is guilty of. To understand my utter complete fury, you must know that I live in Singapore and I quite literally pay international shipping for every can of this formula (and wade through customs declarations, tests and tax levies) to bring this milk to my son. In Singapore, this can of milk is also available but in highly limited quantities and even more princely prices (yes, even after the tax, customs and shipping, it still costs less than US$68 which is the going price per can here). Calls to Hain Celestial customer service drove me further up the wall when first, a lady said the hexane was only in trace amounts and less than what the FDA approved. Then, reaching another lady an hour later, the story was different. She said that the hexane solvent method was the only method approved by the FDA to extract the DHA/ARA from non-toxic algae and soil fungus. A third occasion and Hain's customer service informed me that there should be no hexane detected in the product but on further probing admitted that she was not aware if the formula had undergone independent third party tests.

To me, this is crazy. The formula was marketed as a pure organic product and we pay premium prices (especially me!) for a premium product. To find that that they have taken such short cuts is completely unacceptable and the worst thing is that, it turns out that most of the other organic formula companies do this exact irresponsible thing and keep quiet about it. The only company that does not is Baby's Only it uses a water based process to extract their DHA/ARA from eggs(compare this to Hain's claim that the hexane method is the only one approved by FDA and one wonders why Baby's Only hasn't been hauled up by the FDA yet). My son is going on that pronto once I can get a shipment to Singapore. Unfortunately, Baby's Only is not available in Singapore (not even at princely prices) and my son is going to have to continue ingesting his Earth's Best formula in the interim.

Although any mom would prefer to feed their baby breast milk, there are circumstances that do not allow everyone to do so. I am stuck in that boat. So, I went on a quest to find the next best thing, organic formula. My son has been on Earth's Best formula since he was one week old and has no problems at all.

Here is what I LIKE about Earth's Best:

ORGANIC. I am very conscious about what I put in my own body so I wouldn't not have it any other way for my son. The use of pesticides and genetically modified ingredients is a terrifying concept to me. EB contains no growth hormones, antibiotics, steroids or potentially harmful pesticides or herbicides.

EASY TO DIGEST. My son has no fussiness or issues with this formula. He's happy and content and has had no issues with gas or spitting up due to the formula. My son was a very colicky baby but we had tested out a few formulas before concluding that it was definitely not the EB causing his fussiness.

AFFORDBILITY. Due to the recent recall of Similac organic formula, Earth's Best became the only affordable organic formula on the market that I could find readably available. The only other option available on the market besides Earth's Best is Babys Only Organic Toddler Formula, Dairy Iron Fortified, 12.7-Ounce Canisters (Pack of 3) and at nearly $30 for 3 cans of 12.7 oz of formula was out of our means. With Amazon subscribe and save, this formula is nearly the same price as non-organic formula. How could I even consider feeding my son anything else?

These are the ISSUES I have with the formula:

SYRUP SOLIDS. Sugar in formula? Excuse me! This is really disappointing but I believe the organic element of the formula far outweighs switching to a non-organic formula. As I said earlier, Baby Only is too expensive to even be an option for us. Plus, I believe the use of pesticides in formula ingredients is a far more dangerous concept than sugar!

DHA/ARA. I am not a fan of the synthetically derived DHA/ARA found in EB formula. However, there are no affordable formulas on the market that have naturally derived DHA/ARA. Therefore, its hard to judge EB alone. The formula industry should be required to find a NATURAL way to derive DHA/ARA if it should be allowed to market their product as organic.

CLUMPS. The formula can be hard to mix properly without getting clumps. It takes an extra amount of patience and time to mix this formula. The best solution I have found is to mix the formula in Dr. Brown's Formula Mixing Pitcheror use a handheld formula mixer such as the Prince Lionheart Versa Formula Mixer when making one bottle at a time. This way I do not get the bubbles that form from vigorous shaking.

Although the EB formula is not perfect, it is the most affordable organic formula made on the market. However, if it is within your means, you may want to do a little bit of research on Baby Only formula.

Buy Earth's Best Organic Now

This product's ingredient profile on the Earth's Best website does not list "Syrup Solids"; however, buyers should be aware that the formula has recently changed to now include this ingredient. Their website has not yet been updated to reflect this (as of 7/18/2010).

I spoke with their consumer relations department and asked them to update their website since the misinformation is misleading to consumers. The change in ingredient profile to include syrup solids is disappointing. I am now researching other formulas.

My wife and I thought we were doing our baby a favor by going organic. We switched from Similac to this formula and it's hard to say if the issues we had were because of this formula....after a 10 day half and half schedule we noticed less pooping and violent screaming after eating. Since this is our first two kids (twins) we can't say if it's the formula but something didn't seem right. Then a friend emailed about the controversy of the synthetic additives in this formula...do your own research, but we have since switched to Baby's Only (too early to tell if it's cured the issues) and we feel better we have steered clear of the fact we might be doing more harm than good. So frustrating! Here is some info to help in your research.

Seems are some issues with DHA/ ARA additives.

EB's Ingredient List below... have you looked at Baby's Only?

Earth's Best: Earth's Best is the leading organic baby food manufacturer. The company is owned by Horizon (which is owned by Dean Foods ) and offers both dairy and soy based organic infant formulas. Earth's Best uses organic lactose from cows, so if you are concerned about your baby having problems with lactose intolerance, this formula might not be the best option.

Baby's Only: Baby's Only from Nature's One comes as both dairy, lactose free, and soy organic formulas. Baby's Only uses brown rice syrup, a higher quality and more complex carbohydrate, when compared to lactose. It's also less likely to cause an blood sugar spikes or problems with food allergies.

Elecare Nutritionally Complete Amino Acid based Medical Food with Iron, Powder, 14.1 Ounces

Elecare Nutritionally Complete Amino Acid based Medical Food with Iron, Powder, 14.1 OuncesElecare mixes well and we use the unflavored version for our 12 week old son. He has a milk allergy and acid reflux and has adjusted to this formula well. We weaned him from Nutramigen to this a 1/3 at a time. Our gastro Dr. recommended adding non-alcohol vanilla(we use Frontier brand that we bought at a local health food store) available on Amazon.com organic natural foods section, to give it a little flavor(as by itself doesn't taste so good),so I add about 1/2-3/4tsp for each mixed 16 oz. seems to do the trick.

I just want to say how thankful my husband and I are for Elecare. With every other formula we tried my daughter on she had every symptom from diahrrea, gas, colic, reflux, projectile vomiting(at least once a day). We went from milk based formulas to lactose free and from lactose free to the amino acid formula. The very first day on elecare we noticed a tremendous difference! Pretty much all the problems with the other formulas disappeared after one bottle! It was like we had a new baby all together. The only downfall to the formula i have seen is that because it is so broken down, it is much thinner than typical formulas however we thicken it a little with xantham gum and she has no problems keeping it down now. Good formula if your baby has digestion problems!!

Surprisingly, my baby enjoys this formula just as much as breast milk and we switch back and forth easily. He is four months old. The reason for only four stars is that it is really expensive. Also gives my baby gas and stinky poo, but that comes with the territory when using formula of any kind. His digestive issues have almost 100% cleared up since we started using it in addition to changing my diet to dairy-free.

Finding premade food for poplars somewhat of a challenge. I have not found a lot that either I like or they like. This one and the others in the series seem to fit the bill nicely. I like the principal of the brand, I like the ingredients it's made with, and after tasting it I can say that I even like the taste of most of the food. Though this one in particular I'm not real fond of myself.

Finding vegetarian toddler food with complete protein is somewhat tricky. While we feed our children mostly the foods that we eat some other foods that we make special just for them, there are times when prepackaged foods are a necessity and when that happens I'm really glad that we have something like this to turn to.

I taste all his foods and this is much better than the jarred variety. I love the more sophisticated ingredients than typical baby food. I don't think it should be given low stars just because a baby won't eat ithow about YOU actually try it to see what it's like. This is good enough that I wish they made a less puréed adult version. It's an excellent combo of veggies and one of the best options out there for babies in terms of nutrition.

Gerber Graduates Grabbers, Banana and Blueberry, 4.23-Ounce (Pack of 8)

Gerber Graduates Grabbers, Banana and Blueberry, 4.23-OunceSince the product was marked down from $215, and it says "an 8 pack", we figured there were more then 8 grabbers in the package.

We thought it was an 8 pack with a few grabbers in each package. Wrong! There were only 8 grabbers in the whole box, meaning I just spent $3.75 on each grabber!!!

We can get them at the store for $1.75-$2. So basically we were just ripped off.

Save your money and buy them in the store.

I first became aware of these Gerber Graduates Grabber thingies when my boy (now four +) was a toddler. He loved them, and, of course, I had to try a few. Not bad. It was a good way to get fruits and veggies into him. Now, every once in a while I see them on sale in my Fresh and Easy Neighborhood Market and I pick up a batch. My boy still likes them, as do I, and I take them along when I go camping. They take no special care and are immediately useable. I also use them as snacks when driving in the car for long distances. Eating them and driving the car is no problem at all. Right now I'm having one of the Banana Blueberry ones. Not bad, but not my favorite either.

Summer Infant, Bibbity, Rinse & Roll Bib, 8 Months+, Blue ( Multi-Pack)

Summer Bibbity Bib, BlueSo far I like this bib a lotit is sturdy and doesn't get gross with repeated wash like some of the coated fabric bibs we have. It best features are that it is easy to clean, hard to stain, and that the pocket really is functional for catching falling food. I have taken in on vacation and appreciated that it rolled into a neat bundle and was easily wiped down. Its downsides are that it is maybe a little narrow and I feel like it could be secured better in the back.

This is not our favorite bib because of its stiffness which I feel like hinders my little guy's range of motion. The trade off is that it's really easy to clean, catches lots of dropped food, and still looks brand new.

It just is perfect. It has not lost its shape, nor color, and keeps on serving its purpose day after day. I am happy with this.

I have 3 kids and this has been hands down the best type of bib. It is easy to clean and you only have to have ONE. The Kiddopotomus brand is a little sturdier and the pocket does a better job of catching food. I use it almost every day and it has lasted 3 years.

Sassy Baby Less Mess Toddler Bowl with Lid, Colors May Vary

Sassy Baby Less Mess Toddler Bowl with Lid, Colors May VaryI've been using two of these for about 3 months now, and while on a particularly fussy day, my 10 month old can manage to pull it off the high chair tray or kitchen table(glass top), on well-mannered days(99%), there are no accidental spills, the bowl stays in place as he tries to pick up pieces of cereal or mush a finger through a creamy mix of fruit and instant cereal. Plus, since he has to really try to take it off, that gives me enough warning to take it away once he only wants to play, unless of course bath time is coming up:-) My friends' 2 year old, loves this bowl stuck to the kitchen table top as he eats tricky things like ice cream. he just has to deal with the goopy stuff not with the bowl moving all over the place too! the double level is a good idea for this older age group where they use a spoon themselves.

I found that the suction base does lose suction power if you put it thro the dishwasher on the 160 degree "sanitizing" cycle, so I just handwash the sticky part, and of course, don't microwave it either.

Never had much luck with the suction cup base on either my bar or table surface. We never used the lid, but the bowl has been in use for almost 2 years and its working out just fine.

i have found that the suction bowls not only help you to teach your baby how to feed themselves, but it also helps you to keep your table area clean. The bowl cover offers a way to fix your childs meals in bulk and store them in a way that is safe and easy to put away. All you have to do later on is heat food to right temperature and stick it down. This bowl is also goos for mothers just learning how to juggle feeding a first child it's first few meals.

i purchased this suction bowl for my granddaughter, very disappointed to find out it did not stick to the high chair tray. That is the reason i purchased this bowl for my granddaughter can learn to pick her food from this bowl without being tossed around.

Suction bowls are a GREAT idea, too bad this one doesn't have any suction! Initially, it sticks to my little ones high chair tray, but after about a minute, it comes loose completely. I even moisten the bottom to create more suction, and that still doesn't work. The only way it sticks to the her tray is if I constantly push on it. Save your money and try something else. I'm currently looking for a new suction bowl. For more reviews and ideas, visit my blog
