green sprouts Favorite Food Bib

green sprouts Favorite Food Bib, Lime SushiThis bib was cute on delivery. It is soft, large enough, and has a great over the head style. However, we washed it before putting it on our 4 month old, and after the first wash, you can no longer see the sushi images, the letters are coming off, and worse of all, it left the falling plastic image bits all over my daughter and me when I carried her. That, can't be safe! Although I did not see any care instructions on the package, since I had seen reviews that mentioned the poor quality of the image before purchase, I washed it with cool water and on gentle... obviously, that did not help.

All in all, I thought it would be great to take my daughter to my husband's restaurant in (it's a sushi joint)... but, since she didn't even get to wear it once before the image faded away, and, since I won't let her wear it now since it's peeling away and leaving white residue all over her.... it's not worth it's value in cuteness.

Absolutely best bibs I could find

I hate Velcro bibs ,they seem to scratch baby's neck.

I tried many different brands and concluded that most bibs are either too small in a neck or made from hard material. I became disappointment in all these big companies that make bibs. Most of the bibs sold in chain stores are very uncomfortable and made from hard and scratchy material. It is sad that little baby's can't complain and most parents keep buying generic velcro bibs. I spend about $70 dollars trying various bibs sold at Toyrus , Wal-Mart , Target , Sears and came to a conclusion that these "Green Sprouts (or I-play as Target refers to them ) bibs are absolutely the BEST for my baby .

I can't even compare them to most of the bibs sold at retail stores , velcro bibs are complete garbage nobody should make velcro bibs with small neck opening

These "Green Sprouts" bibs are almost perfect for my 3 month old . I got 6 bibs and stopped using all other bibs we had .

Pros:

Very Soft

No Velcro

Neck opening is stretchable and soft

Cons:

Relatively expensive

Medium level absorbency

Really cute, nice quality. The dye did run onto other items when I washed it the first few times. But I would still recommend this bib.

I have tried numerous bibs and these are the only ones I now use. They are cute and funny, but they also seem to work the best. They cover the front and I position them like a sort of trough between the tray and baby so it catches food. I am not fond of the plastic bib troughs...I find them a bit gross to be honest, but these cloth bibs I love. They also go over the head so baby cannot undo them which had started happening with the velcro bibs. I do not have a problem with them being from China...I just washed them before use like everything else.

I just think the Green Sprouts bibs are funny, and at the same time they are a very well-made, practical product. I didn't think the opening in the top was too big at all. It was funny because I bought 4 of these, each with a different food and the only one that had a bigger neck opening was the "takeout" one. Don't know why that is! I also "heart" this brand, so that's an added bonus!

Plum Organics Super Puffs Greens, 1.5-Ounce

Plum Organics Baby Super Puffs Purples, Blueberry & Purple Sweet Potato, 1.5-Ounce ContainersSearching for a low-sugar wheat-free puff to offer my baby girls, I discovered Plum Organics with much joy. Clearly superior to all other major brands of baby puffs for digestive health, who's better than Plum for my family? I've successfully battled to contain a serious digestive disorder called Ulcerative Colitis for over a decade in part by special attention to diet. In that time I've learned even moderate amounts of wheat causes problems by creating an overgrowth of Candida yeast in my system. Some know this as a sensitivity to gluten or sugars, others suffer without realizing as so many foods contain wheat or high amounts of sugar. For me it's cumulative folks, a little in nearly everything really piles up. I notice my body getting too much as soon as I begin to heavily crave breads or sugars. Before you know it, that gummy gluten renders me 90% incapable of absorbing nutrition altogether.

Back to the Puffs... wheat is high in gluten, but the oat and rice based Puff offered by Plum Organics stands out with ingredients more gentle on digestive function. This is in addition to providing all the stuff HappyBaby remains conscious of, like sugar and vitamin content. Rice is gluten-free and minimally processed oat may be too, but many still leave it off the list of gluten-free foods due to typical cross-contamination issues with lots of wheat growing and processed alongside oats. Small amounts are ok with me anyway -I'm looking for regulation rather than elimination here. So I'm happy to introduce all these foods to my daughters at healthy levels.

How about the sugar content? Super low, and only natural organic fruit, vegetable or cane juice is used (not corn-syrup as another reviewer erroneously reported -). And can we really get upset about a little blueberry or sweet potato juice temporarily staining a cloth when you account for their health properties? Regulate, read the labels for yourself and take joy in offering your kids a simple, low sugar, high vitamin, low gluten snack.

Oh and must say, I love that they're mainly just puffed air with a fantastic balance of nutrients. 1/2 cup or about 75 pieces per serving keeps my little dears engaged in motor development and feeding skills for a while without concern for dietary imbalance.

Bunch of facts, all packed up to help someone out there enjoy a little extra peace next time they offer Plum Puffs to their kids. Live well!

My son loves these little multicolored stars. So far, we've tried to spinach and apple as well as the mango and sweet potato. He loves them both! They are the perfect size for his little hands and one of the first foods he started to feed himself at around 8 months.

ORGANIC. I chose these puffs because I wanted an alternative to cheerios and other genetically modified cereals. I love that these are organic and feature flavors that are both wholesome and tasty. I've tried them myself and they are yummy!

NO ARTIFICIAL INGREDIENTS. This is a must have for foods I feed my baby.

BPA FREE PACKAGING. I love that these come in BPA free and recyclable packaging.

CONVENIENT. These are perfect for on the go. We bring this with us where ever we go and its the perfect little snack for my son.

The only thing I can say thats negative about these puffs is that they go stale fast! My son is about 9 months old and doesn't eat a lot of these at once. It states on the packaging that they should be used within 1 week for optimal freshness. It takes my son about 3 weeks to finish a package. This caused me to give it four stars instead of five. However, I will still definitely try the other flavors that Plum has available!

My son loves these puffs and they are organic and a good price. That's all I care about. This is also a weird thing: I love the packaging. It's more slender than other puffs that I've purchased, so they don't take up as much room. Weird, I know but these reviews have to be at least 20 words. :)

My son loves his stars. His favorite so far is the orange puffs. They're easy for him to pick up and they disolve quickly in his mouth. They're a great snack on the road or at home, just beware of the leftovers on the floor when baby is done, some will miss the mark. I just wish there was more for your money, really expensive compared to a box of cheerios, but I like knowing its better for my son to eat this than the GMO stuff.

Earth's Best Organic 2nd Winter Squash, 4 Ounce Jars (Pack of 12)

Earth's Best Organic 2nd Winter Squash, 4 Ounce JarsMy cat suffers from hairballs in the spring shedding season. I had read that squash and pumpkin baby food helps add fiber to the cats diet. She likes the spoonful I add to her food and it does seem to help with the dreaded hairballs. I know most people reading this will be concerned about human babies-but my furry kid is important to me.

When I first tried out the variety pack, this Winter Squash was one of the flavors that my twin babies instantly liked. I started getting subscriptions for some of the flavors one at a time. As they're getting bigger and eating more, I've added subscriptions. We've run out at times and were forced to buy at the store, and I'm now determined to just keep those subscriptions going and not run out again. I don't have a store nearby that beats the subscription price and with twins, I'm more than happy to get the packages delivered and have fewer errands. (As an aside, I'm personally beat and have learned even greater respect for parents in general. With twins, one gets humbled in short order. When I see how other parents manage, I'm always in awe at how good they are.) The jars arrive very well packaged and I've never had any problems personally. They come 12 in a box, the box is completely wrapped in lots bubble wrap so well that I need scissors to open the actual bubble wrap, and finally in a strong larger box.

I have added this one knowing they like it and will readily eat it. My other 4 oz. subscriptions are: carrots, lentil and rice, chicken dinner and sweet potato. Soon I expect to add fruit flavors but the pediatrician advised to wait on fruit jars until they're just a little older and to start out with the vegetable ones. The chicken dinner, which is really chicken with brown rice, was also advised but it has more squash than chicken. When we ordered that, we crossed the threshold and departed from a vegetarian diet for our now 8+ month old babies. We are not vegetarians but consume very little meat and poultry, so I guess our babies follow our personal guidelines, although as an ideal we'd eventually be vegetarians. The only reason I didn't order the squash subscription earlier was that the chicken dinner has so much squash in it.

What I've also discovered is that the features included in managing one's subscriptions (within My Account) are very good. You can tell them you're out and want the next one sooner and several other options as well. I've got several other subscriptions, such as baby formula and also some supplements for the adults in the household, and find the managing subscription feature very handy.

Ingredients per label: Organic winter squash, water necessary for processing.

This has 40 calories, 5% protein, 100% vitamin A, 20% vitamin C, 4% calcium and 2% iron. I've been informed that the percentage of daily needs met is based on an adult.

I only write this review to give others a heads-up. My 7 month old had enjoyed this winter squash for around 6 weeks. Heretofore it had been a great product. Unfortunately the last batch we received via my AMZN subscription was as thick as paste. It clearly hadn't been mixed correctly, likely incorrect amount of water.

Net net, his grandmother tried to feed him some and my infant son (who is 22lbs and eats like a horse) took one mouthful, tried to swallow but began to gag and choke. I had to turn him face down over my forearm and hit his back until he could clear that spoonful of paste.

Something certainly wrong with this last batch of Winter Squash which had been fine until now I've contacted the company waiting to hear back. If you've ordered any recently make sure sure it doesn't seem absurdly thick if you are thinking of ordering some, may want to pick another.

I feed both my kids Earth's Best brand baby/toddler food when I am unable to prepare food myself. All flavors have a short list of ingredients, good flavor and a nice nutrition profile.

I usually wrap these jars in a ziplock bag with a baby spoon and stash in the diaper bag for wholesome food on the go. I like to feed my toddler what my husband or I eat, but it is great having a back-up if she is really not hip to the entree.

Earths Best is the next best thing to mom's cooking ;)

Off label use:

If you are out of oil when making baked goods, like pumpkin muffins, you can add a jar of complimentary flavored baby food in a pinch and they will still come out moist! Happy accidents are worth sharing!

I am actually someone who will buy baby food and eat it just to get some extra serving of vegetables. I put them in smoothies and to add flavor to soups as well. This one I tasted cold and it tasted like squash, nothing artificial and the texture was perfect. Very smooth and creamy which is one thing that I really love about it. Another thing I love is it being organic and GMO free. These are packed with nutrition perfect for growing babies. I did notice however though when I heated it up the taste changed which I found to be strange. Heated up it tasted like spaghettio's which was kind of a turn off to me. I dont know how the babies feel but I am sure they wont know the difference. I think that I will stick to buying cascadian farms frozen winter squash. That has a better taste when heated up. But for smoothies and soups, possibly even to put in bread to moisten I will be purchasing this from Earths Best.

Earth's Best Organic 2nd Wholesome Breakfast, 4.5 Ounce (Pack of 12)

Earth's Best Organic 2nd Wholesome Breakfast, Apple Yogurt Oatmeal, 4.5-Ounce JarsThis baby food, labeled for 6+ months, contains heavy cream. My baby could not digest it; we had a very bad day. Maybe I missed that in the description, but in any case, everywhere I've read and according to my pediatrician, you're supposed to avoid cow's milk products before age 1 (why they make formula using cow's milk and not a much more digestible milk like goat baffles me and is a rant for another time--my son drinks the lactose free kind, in any case). I ordered another variety of "Wholesome breakfast" too: Pear, Apple, Oatmeal. Same thing there. I'm guessing they all have heavy cream in them.

Our nine-month-old daughter is ready for a more substantial breakfast than plain cereals. We want her to get the nutrients and vitamins she needs (especially iron), so plain fruit or vegetables aren't enough. This blend of fruit and grains (and, in some cases, yogurt) provides everything she needs for a good breakfast and keeps her full for several hours. Plus, the flavors are not overly sweet. One note: at least two of these flavors include yogurt. Some babies younger than 1-year may have a reaction to yogurt and other dairy foods, so just watch out for that.

I wish Amazon would include a list of ingredients on baby food in bulk. This has cream in it and my baby has a cow's milk intolerance. I had already opened the jar when I read the ingredients and now I'm stuck with 15 jars of food I can't use. So disappointing.

Thinkativity Imagine and Learn Musical Mixer

Thinkativity Imagine and Learn Musical MixerMy 2 year old daughter absolutely loves this toy! She is a whiz at it. She plays with it for hours. She is so excited when she plays this. She got it last year for her birthday and is still playing with it 6 months later. It so cute. It helped her learn different foods and words. If she can't find the right thing to make one of the recipes, it gives her hints to find the right food groups...helping her learn her colors too! I can't say enough good things about this toy! If I could I would nominate it for a toy of the year award!

We were very excited about this toy a relative who is a chef gave it to my 2 1/2 year old daughter for Christmas 2009. The toy seemed to work, in that it responds when the child puts the different pieces in the mixer. However after hearing my child get lots of "try again" type responses, I tried it myself. It didn't work as intended. The toy doesn't recognize the pieces/foods well. A third of the time it doesn't "see" a piece at all, a third of the time it thinks it's a different food, and a third of the time it correctly "sees" the food. Because of this, it is impossible to play the game of making certain foods by mixing and matching the pieces.

It was also difficult to tell if you were pushing the pieces in properly sometimes it would respond just to lightly push them into the spot, other times you'd have to push hard until it clicked in. How the item was pushed in did not improve the toy's accuracy at "seeing" the foods.

I would have given this one star, but since I didn't follow up with the manufacturer, I will give it a little benefit of the doubt that we just had a defective toy.

Beaba Stackable Formula and Snack Containers in Sorbet

Beaba Stackable Formula and Snack Containers in SorbetI only used this container for snacks and it's okay. The top cap is a bit hard to open and the cups are hard to screw on properly. I really like the colors and the look of it but have been happier with usability of the Dr. Browns stackable container.

This product is of very poor quality. It feels like a cheaply-made toy. I have twins, and I can't be spending 5 minutes, trying to fit the threads to screw the dispenser back together. As a product designer myself, I would be embarrassed to put out a product like this on the market.

I recently purchased 2 of this item and thought I would use it only when we left the house. Now, I find I use it even while I am at home. I pre-filled one container to hold (3) 3 ounce formula and the other one I pre-filled to hold (3) 4 ounce portions of formula. I love the funnel and it is much less messier than using the tiny scoop that comes with the formula, especially because I use the standard size bottles so I was spilling formula powder everywhere. Instead, I reach for this and it is much easier. As my baby grows up, I can use it for snacks and such.

I wish I had one of these with my first child! My second one is almost 11 months old and this has been one of the most useful baby gear items we have.

Pros: 1 Easy to mix bottles just measure out how much you need for each bottle before you leave the house. I actually measure one before I go to bed so that I can prepare her "1st thing in the morning" bottle more quickly. The spout which is under the green cap in the picture ensures that all of the powder gets into the bottle. 2 If you're going to be out for a while, you can keep up to 3 bottles worth, which has worked beautifully for traveling. 3 Can keep formula or snacks on hand at any time.

Cons: 1 The pieces can get a little difficult to screw together once they get formula/crumbs in the threads. Just keep the threads clean and it works wonderfully. 2 I wouldn't mind a 4th compartment. But, if it had 4, I'd probably want 5.

I will be giving these as baby gifts it has really been useful.

Milk Trays by Sensible Lines

Sensible Lines Milk TraysI use these trays exclusively for freezing my breastmilk. I like the flexibility of having 1 oz sticks of milk. The plastic trays are BPA free and easy to clean. HOWEVER, there are some serious design flaws as noted by the other reviews the biggest problem is that the tray lids don't fit tightly, so milk is easily spilled. I use Dr. brown's bottles and find I can fit four sticks in without starting to break them. More than that and I have to break them to fit them in.

I like the idea of these 1 oz sticks, but as the previous reviewer mentioned, they didn't execute it very well.

The lids do not snap on securely, which results in spills when not carried with extreme care. I had a couple of lids break at the corners, and the others just don't snap shut at all. We also can't fit more than 2 sticks at a time in the bottles we use. Fortunately, since we have in-home childcare, we can use a wider bottle to defrost the milk and then pour it into the feeding bottle.

We still use these, because I find it much easier to keep track of milk pumped and drunk in one-ounce increments, and we can vary the amount defrosted based on the baby's feeding rate that day.

I hope that the company redesigns these as a better quality product. I really do like the concept.

UPDATE:

I contacted the company as suggested in the comment to my review, and they promptly sent me two new trays. Excellent customer service! I have been using those for the past 2 months with much better results than the first time. I've updated my stars from 2 to 4 based on that. I now have only one complaint, and that is that though the lids shut, you have to be very very careful with holding the trays when putting them into the freezer, as the milk still tips around a bit.

Buy Milk Trays by Sensible Lines Now

After reading the reviews here I opted to buy these trays despite the complaints about the lids not fitting tightly. I really do like the concept, and the sales reps at my local maternity store indicated they had not heard any complaints about them so I figured I would just try them and be careful with handling.

What I found was that the lids fit great the first time you use the trays, but after one freezing cycle, good luck on ever getting them to snap fully closed again. I was super careful when moving the trays with ill-fitting lids, but I would venture to say that it is nigh impossible to keep from having some degree of spilt milk while transferring from kitchen counter to freezer. The trays wound up being more of a pain than they were worth, especially since you cannot put them in the dishwasher either. (Ironically the literature says that to do so will warp them gee, I guess they forgot to mention that they would get warped in the freezer??) I soon discontinued using these trays. Instead, I ordered 2.5 oz Medela storage bottles and they work great in the freezer and are a convenient size to defrost.

I may try these trays again when it's time to freeze pureed foods at least they won't spill like milk.

I used the standard milk storage bags all through nursing my first child, and they were fine. My biggest complaint was that the quantity frozen in the bag often didn't match the quantity I wanted in the bottle! So, when I saw these trays they looked like a good solution to that issue.

However, after ordering the trays, they sat in the box for a month because I was hesitant to mess with my old system for pumping/freezing. Finally I took them out, washed them, and started to use them. It took about a week for me to get into a groove with them, but now that I am, I can't believe I ever went without them! They rock!

Here's what I love:

-milk freezes much faster

-you can freeze milk at any time (no waiting to have the right quantity you want to make up a bag)

-milk easily pops out of trays and into a regular freezer bag to store

-these save $$! Because you can use regular freezer bags, these cut your milk storage costs and will pay for themselves

-you can easily get just the amount of milk you want for a bottle

-they wash up quickly & easily between uses (hand wash only!)

My tips/what I've learned:

-It's true the cover doesn't fit snugly onto the tray, but it's not designed to. Just be careful when placing the tray in the freezer and it's not an issue. I put mine in our chest freezer and just created one nice, level spot in a basket to place the tray while it's freezing. Not a big deal.

-Don't overfill the trays. There is a clear line in each compartment underneath the top. Don't pour the milk in past that line. This gives the milk a little room to expand as it freezes and you won't have the spillage/leaking issues as long as you keep the tray level.

-I use gallon ziploc freezer bags to store the milk sticks. I just write the month on the bag and then bag 1, bag 2, etc. as I fill them up.

I highly recommend these. Don't listen to the negative reviews. Try them for yourself and see if they work for you. Personally, I can't imagine these not making your pumping/milk storage life easier!

Want Milk Trays by Sensible Lines Discount?

I bought these trays after doing hours of research on different breastmilk freezing solutions. I looked into regular ice cube trays and all of the ones designed specifically for breastmilk and/or baby food. I was slightly skeptical when I ordered these because of the multiple negative reviews that I read about the cover warping, not fitting well, and spillage. What helped put me at ease is that one of the moms who owns this company took the time to respond to most negative reviews with helpful hints or urging the buyers to contact the company directly so they can make it right. I thought that was excellent customer service so I decided to give these a try.

I love these trays. I like that the sticks are one ounce. I transfer them to freezer Ziploc bags as soon as they're frozen. I haven't had any problems with the lids not fitting well. They haven't warped at all in the freezer and I hand wash them so that they don't warp in the dishwasher. I think as long as you follow the instructions on the box and fill each compartment only to the fill line and move the tray carefully to the freezer, you should have no issues. My freezer is on top of my fridge and I also make sure to make room for the tray and open the freezer door before I start carrying the tray. If you still have trouble with the milk sloshing around inside the tray before you put it in the freezer, just fill the compartments a little less... they seem to hold slightly more than 1 oz of milk anyway (or I'm slightly over-filling them). Either way, problem solved. As for the price, I think these will soon pay for themselves since I don't have to buy special breastmilk freezer bags now!
