I make my daughter's yogurt since the only whole fat yogurt available in stores where we live is Stonyfield's, and they're almost $1/cup. The recipe uses 3c. whole milk and a cup of dry milk, which sent me on a search for a dry milk that was more nutricious than the plain old nonfat dry milk that most places carry. Nestle Nido Kinder was my answer: I like that it's fortified with so many nutrients that growing kids need, fiber was a huge plus since my daughter sometimes has regularity problems, essential fatty acids, and the taste is really good. My daughter also likes it mixed as a drink as well, and since it taste slightly different than regular milk, it's a nice change every once in awhile. I compared this to toddler formulas that are out there, and this has just as much nutrients for more than half the price (with S&S discount 30.7cents/oz. and Similac Go&Grow toddler formula is 76cents/oz. on Amazon). I've also purchased Walmart's version of Pediasure before I discovered Nestle Kinder, and they're also nutrient comparable, but Kinder is WAY cheaper than even a generic pediasure (it cost $1.31/8oz. bottle and an 8oz sippy of Kinder made with nursery water cost 40.6cents to make). I highly recommend trying this with your toddler if you're looking for something to supplement your child's diet that is also budget friendly.
***Update from two years ago when I made this review: The price more than doubled! I was paying $13 for this 3.52lb. can with Subcribe&Save. I love the product still, HATE THE PRICE!!! I'm sorry, but I'm sure not making almost triple what I was so I sure can't afford to pay that much for the same product.***
Another reviewer mentioned using this to make yogurt, so I bought some. I use this only and it makes seriously good yogurt & is cost effective, too. Tastes good to drink--kids shouldn't get all the good stuff!

I recently received a free sample of Nido 1+. I'm not sure why (I don't even have kids), especially as the packaging was all in Spanish. However, I have purchased powdered milk from time to time over the years and I was curious about the taste of this Nestle product. Wow! Other than being slightly (but not overpoweringly) sweet, this tastes closer to fresh whole milk than any other powdered product I have ever tried -and I've tried a lot of them. And it tastes GOOD. In fact, on the basis of taste alone I would prefer drinking a glass of this to regular whole or low-fat milk. That's something I thought I'd never say.
I've tried it on cereal and oatmeal and again, it's better than the real thing. But the really big news for me is that it's also excellent in coffee. I'm a stickler for having real milk in my coffee and will only use that powdered non-dairy stuff when I'm desperate for a caffeine fix and there's no alternative. This stuff can go into your java in either mixed (liquid) or powdered form, and it makes me one happy coffee-drinking jitterbug. Who knew that the best powdered creamer is actually infant formula? (To be 100% accurate, this isn't marketed as infant formula, but as a fortified milk-based drink for young children.) Oh... my cats Chloe and Marmalade give it 2 paws up too.
Now for the not-so-good news: Prepared according to the manufacturer's instructions, it appears that, quart for quart, Nido is more expensive than either ordinary powdered milk or regular supermarket-branded milk. However, it is fortified with additional nutrients, including vitamins A, C, D, E, B6, B12, and K, along with Niacin, Folic Acid, Iron, Calcium, Thiamine, Riboflavin (all good stuff), and for some people (like me) that offsets the price disadvantage. Also, being a dry product, it should store well, so it's a natural as a back-up for the real thing or to keep on hand as part of your emergency supplies. It certainly makes sense for camping trips and backpacking.
Now, looking at it as a coffee creamer, it MAY actually be cheaper than the detestable non-dairy powdered stuff that is sold for that purpose. I'll have to look into the prices to tell for sure, since it's been years since I've bought any powdered creamer. In my opinion Nido is far superior in taste (which, I suppose, shouldn't be surprising, as non-dairy creamer is, well, non-dairy, while Nido is made primarily from real milk). I also have a bunch of cold blended coffee recipes (you know, chocolate-caramel-mochaccino-type drinks) that call for powdered non-dairy creamer. It's hard for me to imagine how Nido wouldn't improve those recipes 1000%, although I haven't tried using it that way yet. Oh -let's not forget about smoothies! A few scoops of Nido should add a nice creaminess to my fruit smoothies, and a nutritional boost as well. I think I'll try Nido in place of protein powder and see how that goes. I see from the nutritional label on the Nido can that four scoops (the scoop is included in the can) contains 6 grams of protein.
I'm almost finished with my free sample, and I'm already planning to buy a big can of Nido 1+ when it's gone. Fortunately, the sample included a $4.00 coupon, so that really helps, but I'm pretty sure I'd be buying it anyway. I'm not a huge consumer of milk (I buy it mostly for my coffee) and occasionally the milk in my refrigerator will start to go bad before I've used up the entire gallon jug. (Yes, I know I could buy it in smaller quantities, but the way it's priced at my supermarket, it's much more cost-efficient to buy the gallon size.) By using Nido instead of liquid milk, I shouldn't have that problem, as I can mix it up in whatever quantities I need.
The bottom line is that this stuff tastes really good and has a great nutritional profile, so I don't see why Nestle seems to be marketing it exclusively as a product for little kids (hint hint). Why should they have all the fun?

I have a one year old and he really likes to drink this, it has a good flavor and I can see how he chooses to drink this milk instead of any other king of drink... right now I'm using one can per week and I think that is great with all the nutrients and probiotics to keep my baby healthy. I will keep on buying it for a while!
My boys just love it! I totally approved, this is the only milk they want and love. I do not mind spending because they are so worth it, there are no $ amount for their health, plus this is actually cheaper than PediaSure and without the junk.
