The First Years Deluxe Reclining Feeding Seat

The First Years Deluxe Reclining Feeding Seat, AnimalsWe have the original version of this chair (which amazon sells for $27.99) and love it. The only reason we decided to buy this deluxe version is because we wanted a 5-pt harness for added safety.

Two things I do NOT like about this chair: (1) Seems to be smaller in size. We put our 17 lb. son in it and it looks like he will outgrow it before long. I compared it to our original version and the seat back is indeed more narrow. (2) The tray is more difficult to attach as compared to the original version. The plastic also seems to be flimsy where it attaches to the seat.

The only positive about this chair is that the type of fabric on the seat cushions will be easier to clean. This is not enough of a reason for us to keep the chair, however, so we will be returning it.

I recently purchased the Fisher-Price Healthy Care Deluxe Booster Seat (for $26 dollars from Amazon). The same weekend, my mother purchased The First Years Deluxe Reclining Feeding Seat for $39.99 from Target. This is my comparison of the two chairs.

The Fisher-Price chair (I bought the red/white version) was VERY easy to assemble. I didn't need to read directions. I just put it together very quickly and logically. (Whew, that was easy!) The straps came attached to the chair. It seems secure and it is very easy to clean. There are no nooks and crannies! The tray has a lid, which is pretty cool. You can actually take the food tray off, put the lid on it, and put it in the refrigerator! (Cool!) My 18 lb 7 month old seems to like the chair. Plus, the price was very nice!

The First Years Deluxe Seat was not easy to put together. I had to refer to the directions. It took me a good 20 minutes. The directions were a bit confusing too (and I like to think that I'm pretty smart!). The straps had to be threaded through some little holes on the chair to attach them. They didn't seem very secure. A small child could easily remove them, maybe even a toddler. After it was all together, it seemed like it was going to be ok. It secured to the chair and seems pretty easy to clean (but not as easy as the Fisher-Price chair). It does recline, but this isn't a feature that I need as my son sits up very well on his own and won't lay back in the chair. He seems comfy in the chair. It has a 5 point harness, but I felt like it was a bit of overkill. I don't plan on leaving him in the chair unsupervised.

For my use, the Fisher Price chair is a much better deal. It is easier to put together and clean and has some features that I like.

My son is a very big 9 month-old. He's the size of an 18 month-old! This chair is sturdy enough for him, but I'm not terribly happy with the strength of the plastic and the type of tray that it has. Eventually, he's going to learn how to unclip the tray. He's already pulling at it and he's very strong!

Pros to this seat:

Straps Straps aplenty and I love them! They feel a tad cheap and they're white, so they're already stained.

Recline feature My son loves this an it makes him a bit more comfortable and he's more patient with being in the chair!

Cons:

Strength The plastic seems a bit flimsy.

Seat "padding" It seems easy to clean, but it's very thin and seems cheap.

Overall, I would opt for something a bit more expensive, i.e. sturdy! This was on sale at my local Target, so I'm not too unhappy with the purchase overall. It's great for him to be seated safely on the floor and pay with some toys! :)

Very happpy with the product and its performance. Light weight, very portable, easy to clean. I love that it can tilt back or sit straight up with ease. Only con about it is the tray is not very easy to lock into place, which can be a challenge when struggling with a six month old who is fighting you for his food.

I found that this high chair is great for an infant baby to toddler especially feeding baby and then being able to change to a booster seat. Tray is eas to remove or put on. The straps are easily adjustable and great for a girl or boy. Worth every penny
