Gobble & Go Hippo

Gobble & Go HippoUnlike some of the other reviews I've read, our hippo gobbles pretty well. Not only does he gobble blocks, but I've seen other objects pop up into his belly.

That said, this is by far one of my daughter's favorite toys. I bought it for her when she was around 9 or 10 months old. We have other Peek-a-Blocks at home which she really enjoys, so I figured that if she wasn't really into the hippo, she'd at least have new blocks. Well, it turns out she LOVES the hippo, and plays with it daily. It's given her so much confidence and has probalby been strengthening her muscles all of them, since she not only walks with the hippo, but swings it around as well! Hey, it's got to be durable if it can stand that much abuse.

We haven't tried the ride-on conversion as of yet, but as far as I can tell, she enjoys playing with the blocks and she's delighted for being so mobile.

All in all, I'd consider this toy a pretty good value for the money. At less than $25, you get a walker, a ride on AND a set of blocks. Not bad in my book.

Before you buy this though, ask yourself: do I want to encourage my crawler who already gets into everything to be even more mobile? Really, shouldn't we be doing everything we can to keep those kids as immobile as possible? I don't know about you but the keep-up-with-your-toddler exercise plan is wiping me out. Our 9 month old daughter was already pretty mobile but had just started to cruise and wasn't great at it. Well along comes Mr. Hippo and forget it. She's toddling all over the place now and it's only a month later. At first he was a little too fast for her but now she can keep up. Our dogs go running when they hear old gobble-and-go clipping across the floor heading straight their way.

On the "gobble" topic. He doesn't exactly gobble that well, it's true. The mechanism that pushes the blocks from his "mouth" to his middle is very soft and turns very loosely so sometimes the blocks just sit against it in his "mouth". Hey, that's okay. If your kid is like mine and loves shoving her hands anywhere and everywhere at least you don't have to worry that they'll be "gobbled" or pinched or whatever.

Overall though, he's one sturdy little hippo. He's been rammed into furniture, and into aforementioned pets repeatedly (not repeatedly into the pets though, as I said, they learned to flee early on) with no damage. So if you really want to help that little mover and shaker to move even more, go for it.

We are huge peek a block fans in our home, so when this toy came out, I went right out and got it for our daughter's first b-day. We played with it right away, but I was not impressed! Of course the blocks are great, but Mr. Hippo doesn't eat up his food like he is supposed to, my daughter has a hard time pushing him cause the handle is small, and to top it off, she has a hard time riding on him cause she is very tall and just can't move her legs right when she is on him. As excited as I was to purchase this toy, I will be returning it as soon as I can. We are going to get her something a little more suitable. I would not reccommend this toy, and am kind of disappointed by Fisher Price with this toy. (I am still a huge fan of Fisher Price though!)

We bought this toy for our daughter at 8 months old..she was already cruizing around the furniture and when we brought this home she went to town..she loves pushing it around the floor and into the walls and everything or one else that gets in her way..Now that she is 11 months old and is walking on her own she still loves to push it around..the only thing is it doesn;t always pick up the blocks but she doesn't mind a bit..I love the way she can just push it around and have fun while it keeps her entertained...as for the riding part great on bair floors but for carpet we find it doesn't work as well...It helped our daughter learn to walk early and to me it was wrorth it all the way...great toy for the money

This is a super cute toy and we couldn't wait to get it home and try it out. Unfortunately our whole house has hardwood floors and the blocks don't "pop" into the belly unless you run the toy over them really fast. We took it over to grandma's house and tried it on her carpeted floors and it worked better but the blocks still get stuck. (Fisher Price should've used a harder plastic for the prongs inside the mouth to force the blocks into the belly, the soft rubber just bends.) It also rolls a little too fast for my 10 month old who is just learning how to walk. However his 16 month old cousin absolutely looooves it and runs all over the house sucking up the blocks and anything else that will fit in the hippos mouth.

Baby Mum-Mum Banana Flavor Rice Rusks, 24-pieces (Pack of 6)

Baby Mum-Mum Banana Flavor Rice Rusks, 24-piecesWe tried these for our 10month son while in Canada. He LOVES both the banana and vegetable flavors. We love them as they are 1) not as messy as the arrowroot teething biscuits (while greatbaby spit and biscuit = cement) and 2) are larger than puffs so occupy him for longer periods of time (car ride from CA to TN and waiting to mom/dad to make dinner). Plus the dog loves them too when our son shares them with him.

This little surf-board shaped crackers are perfect for baby. Our daughter started eating them at 5 months (on advice from pediatrician). After she figured out how to get the cracker in her mouth, she loved them. You don't need teeth as baby can suck on it and it dissolves quickly. Now she is 10 months old and stil loves them.

My 10-month daughter does like eating these rick rusks, so we ordered some.

We are very angry after we received them and found all of them will be expired on this Aug. And these products can not be returned.

We do not know why they do not show us the expire date of their products?

Before I realized that these rice snacks are made in China, I gave them occasionally to both of my kids when they were first transitioning to solid foods. My babies loved them because the taste is very mild and they dissolve in the baby's mouth quite easily to make eating them easy for the baby. These biscuits barely have any calories or any nutritional value so I used them only on occasion for baby feeding training. And I was quite pleased with them because my babies enjoyed eating them so much.

However, once I learned that these biscuits are made in China I stopped buying them. I don't prefer to buy baby food items produced in China as I know that their manufacturing protocols are not as stringent as they are in the US. Instead, I switched to buying puffs by Happy Baby and other biscuits by Plum Organics. Since Baby Mum-Mums are just basic rice biscuits many consumers are probably fine with knowing that Baby Mum-Mums are made in China. However, I believe that a lot of U.S. consumers do not realize that these biscuits are made in China when they purchase them. Anyhow, I now read the labels of all baby food products that I buy much more diligently to double check that they are made in the USA under US Safety standards.

The bottom line is that if it does not bother you that these biscuits are made in China, then I am sure your baby will love eating them and they do work well when the baby is learning to feed because they are very mild, dissolve quickly and are so easy for the baby to eat.

This product is now Made in China, and was not disclosed in the product description. Because it is a baby food item, it is not eligible for return, so we paid for it anyway! I would not feed a baby food made in china.

Ameda Store N Pour Breast Milk Storage Bags, 20 Count-, PACK OF 4

Ameda Store N Pour Breast Milk Storage Bags, 20 Count-, PACK OF 4Having an Ameda pump I assumed these bags would be the best since I could pump directly into the bags with the special adapter. After pumping into the bags a few times I realized it was so much easier to pump into bottles and then pour it into bags. If you have an Ameda pump and prefer to pump into bags then these are great for you! I however, found it to be tricky since if you moved the wrong way you could potentially spill the milk and it was difficult to regulate how much milk went into eat bag (I liked to freeze bags with 4 oz at a time). I will say that the spout on these bags was well designed if you only wanted to pour a few ounces out at a time.

I found other brand bags to be much cheaper and worked just as well, minus the ability to hook up to the Ameda pump.

Earth's Best Organic

Earth's Best Organic Infant Formula with Iron, DHA & ARA, 23.2 Ounce CanisterTo be honest, I have never written a review, not matter how good or bad a product I received was. I never had the time and never bothered. Today, I write my very first review of a product that I have been feeding my precious son since birth. He is now 2 years 4 months. I could never breastfeed him exclusively due to bone density loss and I did massive amounts of research and tried out tons of different brands before deciding on this organic formula from Earth's Best and since then, even though he is now a toddler, I still use the Earth's Best infant formula and supplement with other child vitamins.

I was trying to re-order again in bulk from Amazon when I noticed for the first time the controversy over DHA/ARA extraction by the use of toxic hexane of which Hain Celestial which manufactures Earth's Best is guilty of. To understand my utter complete fury, you must know that I live in Singapore and I quite literally pay international shipping for every can of this formula (and wade through customs declarations, tests and tax levies) to bring this milk to my son. In Singapore, this can of milk is also available but in highly limited quantities and even more princely prices (yes, even after the tax, customs and shipping, it still costs less than US$68 which is the going price per can here). Calls to Hain Celestial customer service drove me further up the wall when first, a lady said the hexane was only in trace amounts and less than what the FDA approved. Then, reaching another lady an hour later, the story was different. She said that the hexane solvent method was the only method approved by the FDA to extract the DHA/ARA from non-toxic algae and soil fungus. A third occasion and Hain's customer service informed me that there should be no hexane detected in the product but on further probing admitted that she was not aware if the formula had undergone independent third party tests.

To me, this is crazy. The formula was marketed as a pure organic product and we pay premium prices (especially me!) for a premium product. To find that that they have taken such short cuts is completely unacceptable and the worst thing is that, it turns out that most of the other organic formula companies do this exact irresponsible thing and keep quiet about it. The only company that does not is Baby's Only it uses a water based process to extract their DHA/ARA from eggs(compare this to Hain's claim that the hexane method is the only one approved by FDA and one wonders why Baby's Only hasn't been hauled up by the FDA yet). My son is going on that pronto once I can get a shipment to Singapore. Unfortunately, Baby's Only is not available in Singapore (not even at princely prices) and my son is going to have to continue ingesting his Earth's Best formula in the interim.

Although any mom would prefer to feed their baby breast milk, there are circumstances that do not allow everyone to do so. I am stuck in that boat. So, I went on a quest to find the next best thing, organic formula. My son has been on Earth's Best formula since he was one week old and has no problems at all.

Here is what I LIKE about Earth's Best:

ORGANIC. I am very conscious about what I put in my own body so I wouldn't not have it any other way for my son. The use of pesticides and genetically modified ingredients is a terrifying concept to me. EB contains no growth hormones, antibiotics, steroids or potentially harmful pesticides or herbicides.

EASY TO DIGEST. My son has no fussiness or issues with this formula. He's happy and content and has had no issues with gas or spitting up due to the formula. My son was a very colicky baby but we had tested out a few formulas before concluding that it was definitely not the EB causing his fussiness.

AFFORDBILITY. Due to the recent recall of Similac organic formula, Earth's Best became the only affordable organic formula on the market that I could find readably available. The only other option available on the market besides Earth's Best is Babys Only Organic Toddler Formula, Dairy Iron Fortified, 12.7-Ounce Canisters (Pack of 3) and at nearly $30 for 3 cans of 12.7 oz of formula was out of our means. With Amazon subscribe and save, this formula is nearly the same price as non-organic formula. How could I even consider feeding my son anything else?

These are the ISSUES I have with the formula:

SYRUP SOLIDS. Sugar in formula? Excuse me! This is really disappointing but I believe the organic element of the formula far outweighs switching to a non-organic formula. As I said earlier, Baby Only is too expensive to even be an option for us. Plus, I believe the use of pesticides in formula ingredients is a far more dangerous concept than sugar!

DHA/ARA. I am not a fan of the synthetically derived DHA/ARA found in EB formula. However, there are no affordable formulas on the market that have naturally derived DHA/ARA. Therefore, its hard to judge EB alone. The formula industry should be required to find a NATURAL way to derive DHA/ARA if it should be allowed to market their product as organic.

CLUMPS. The formula can be hard to mix properly without getting clumps. It takes an extra amount of patience and time to mix this formula. The best solution I have found is to mix the formula in Dr. Brown's Formula Mixing Pitcheror use a handheld formula mixer such as the Prince Lionheart Versa Formula Mixer when making one bottle at a time. This way I do not get the bubbles that form from vigorous shaking.

Although the EB formula is not perfect, it is the most affordable organic formula made on the market. However, if it is within your means, you may want to do a little bit of research on Baby Only formula.

Buy Earth's Best Organic Now

This product's ingredient profile on the Earth's Best website does not list "Syrup Solids"; however, buyers should be aware that the formula has recently changed to now include this ingredient. Their website has not yet been updated to reflect this (as of 7/18/2010).

I spoke with their consumer relations department and asked them to update their website since the misinformation is misleading to consumers. The change in ingredient profile to include syrup solids is disappointing. I am now researching other formulas.

My wife and I thought we were doing our baby a favor by going organic. We switched from Similac to this formula and it's hard to say if the issues we had were because of this formula....after a 10 day half and half schedule we noticed less pooping and violent screaming after eating. Since this is our first two kids (twins) we can't say if it's the formula but something didn't seem right. Then a friend emailed about the controversy of the synthetic additives in this formula...do your own research, but we have since switched to Baby's Only (too early to tell if it's cured the issues) and we feel better we have steered clear of the fact we might be doing more harm than good. So frustrating! Here is some info to help in your research.

Seems are some issues with DHA/ ARA additives.

EB's Ingredient List below... have you looked at Baby's Only?

Earth's Best: Earth's Best is the leading organic baby food manufacturer. The company is owned by Horizon (which is owned by Dean Foods ) and offers both dairy and soy based organic infant formulas. Earth's Best uses organic lactose from cows, so if you are concerned about your baby having problems with lactose intolerance, this formula might not be the best option.

Baby's Only: Baby's Only from Nature's One comes as both dairy, lactose free, and soy organic formulas. Baby's Only uses brown rice syrup, a higher quality and more complex carbohydrate, when compared to lactose. It's also less likely to cause an blood sugar spikes or problems with food allergies.

OXO Tot Roll Up Bib

OXO Tot Roll Up Bib, AquaThe OXO Tot Roll Up Bib is easy to clean and great for travel. We started using this bib instead of our Baby Bjorn bib for two main reasons. First, the Baby Bjorn strap leaves red marks on our infant. The OXO bib uses velcro so it's easy to put on and take off. Second, it's easy to clean while having the flexibility of rolling up. This is great if you want to throw it in the diaper bag for on-the-go feeding. Add OXO Tot On-the-Go Feeding Spoon, Green and put it in the pocket before rolling up for even more space savings!

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program Naw.

This sound like a good idea. The product itself looks heavy but it weighs in at about 4 ounces. The weight wont bother your baby much. The plastic tray probably will. The fabric part of the bib, which is nylon like, is less than 3 inches long. The rest of the bib is the plastic tray. The tray is 8 inches wide. That's wide enough to get in the way of even a large infant's arms. There's really not much fabric to roll up. The lip around the the catch is too narrow and the stem is too short so it is easy to knock open the bib and it won't stay closed when rolled up.

The bib isn't machine washable and can not be put in a dryer . It has to be hand washed. It also takes up alot more room than conventional bibs, which are easier to fold up than this product is.

Green Sprouts Aqua Bottle Assorted

Green Sprouts Aqua Bottle BPA and Phthalate Free'Colors are selected at random'We've owned 3 of these purchased at Whole Foods.

Pros: We keep purchasing them b/c our 1.5 y.o. can easily open & close it herself. It's BPA & Phthalate Free. It's transparent so you can see how much liquid is left easily. It's standard size so fits in cupholders. It's a very toddler-friendly, easy to handle size. The straw is soft so doesn't get chewed into a squished narrow opening like many hard straws do.

Cons: Not durable. Our daughter dropped 1 of our 3 from the kitchen table to the floor and a huge circle hole cracked out of the lid. Not the best design: The 2nd of 3 was ruined when we brought it to the beach & a few granules of sand got btw. the flip lid and lid, scratching lines in the material & rendering it difficult to open.

This is the only bottle/cup my 10 month old will drink out of! We've used others, but my daughter ends up chucking them across the room. This is the only one she doesn't let go of and she actually drinks out of it. The first day we bought it, she gobbled up all 12 ounces! She loves it. It is durable because she's set it aside a few times and it fell, but still hasn't broken. Also, it DOES leak if you tip it towards you because the hole on the top makes it easier to sip out of. But, she doesn't tip it anyway and it comes with an easy-to-use cap. I'd say this is the best sippy/straw cup out there (and we've used lots).

Buy Green Sprouts Aqua Bottle Assorted Now

I was looking for a straw bottle for my baby as she didn't take regular bottles and I didn't want to give her the sippy cup. My baby was 6 m.o. when I gave it to her since then it's her favorite toy. She figured it out in a matter of seconds.

The pros:

clear BPA free plastic to see how much liquid is in

measurements are in mm and oz

soft silicone top of the straw can't hurt my baby gums even if she sips/chews it in the car on the bumpy ride

the straw is smaller than regular ones thus creating less flow (with the regular straws the flow is too much for her to handle and the majority of liquid ends up on her/floor)

perfect size for her tiny hands

The cons:

the straw is smaller than the regular ones (hard to clean. I use the bottle nipple brushes and it take all my strength to get it inside the straw). Would be nice if manufacturer come out with it's own brush (if they have it, I don't know about it).

We have been using this cup for over a month now and so far so good. I've bought it at local Whole Foods.

Our toddler has enjoyed using these bottles since she was a year old. We've owned two over the last 7 months.

Pros: Very easy for toddlers to hold, sip from, and open and close. Semi-transparent bottles make it easy to see how much liquid remains.

Cons: Bottles leak from the straw when you take it out of the fridge and the pressure equalizes. Also leak from around the threads even when cap and valve are secured. The open/close tabs have chipped off of both bottles from having been dropped onto hardwood and tile floors. The straws, apparently great teethers, need replacing every one or two months. The decorations on the bottle wear away after a few washes (we handwash the bottles). Have I mentioned these bottles leak?

My son is EBF and refuses all bottles. gave this to him ( 5 months, 3 weeks) and instantly started drinking right from the straw! So much for bottles, right on to the cup!!!

graze organic Deluxe 5 Pack Organic Reusable Snack Bags, Sandwich, Vegetable and Fruit Snack

graze organic Deluxe 5 Pack Organic Reusable Snack Bags, Sandwich, Vegetable and Fruit SnackI really wish I never bought these. I was trying to avoid using plastic baggies for all the obvious reasons and so I came across these and thought they would be a good alternative. First off, the price is ridiculous. Second, you cannot store anything remotely most in them! Forget packing chopped fruit or even a PBJ, everything leaked or stained the insides and it was just gross. The chopped pear leaked everywhere into my diaper bag. It needs some sort of liner, or you have to just reserve for completely dry snacks like crackers.

These are great because they are reusable, easy to clean for next use and my children LOVE that they know what is in each bag. I love that there is no plastic, and the ink is safe. A must have if you are looking for an alternative to bags made of plastic. I am buying more because we love them so much!

Buy graze organic Deluxe 5 Pack Organic Reusable Snack Bags, Sandwich, Vegetable and Fruit Snack Now

I purchased these for my son's lunch to get away from using the disposable wrappings. As another reviewer wrote, you can't use them for much. Sandwiches get soggy, dry goods get stale and fruits leak or get that rubbery feel to them. All in all, this is a very disappointing product. We've managed to figure out how to use them if we pack lunches and use them right away. Packing items the night before however, left cheese slightly dried out and anything crispy lost its crisp.

These are super cute and I think I understand that they were trying to avoid plastics so there is no liner. I loved the idea. But it didn't fly and cost way too much. Check out etsy or even local organic markets. They are often half the price or less... you may have to sacrifice the organic element of the materials, so it is really what is important to you.

Boon Mush Manual Baby Food Processor, Tangerine

Boon Mush Manual Baby Food Processor, TangerineI got this to take along on an upcoming trip with my 13 month old twins and I must say I was pleasantly surprised, as it got table food to a nice "chewed up" consistency. I gave it four stars because it"s a tad too big to just throw in the diaper bag easily and it takes a little muscle to use the mechanism, although an effective one for sure. The first time we tested it out, i ended up with a pretty large cut on my finger (the blades are very sharp!) and when my husband took over, he ended up sending the whole processor across the kitchen, spattering a mishmash of turkey and stuffing all over the clean dishes so yes, it takes a little practice. Fyi, if you're looking for a fine pureed consistency for your final product, this isn't the apparatus for you. Ill be using this a lot for my twins as theyre transitioning to table/finger foods and even for chopping things up so another yay for Boon!

Although we usually feed our 9 month-old baby organic, store-bought baby food in pouches, I wanted a simple food processor that we could use once-in-awhile to make homemade baby food, or to add finely-chopped fruits and veggies to ready-made purees for an extra nutrient boost. I didn't want to plunk down over $100 for an electric baby food maker that would only be used occasionally, and which would become virtually useless once my baby started eating table food. But it was extremely difficult to find a regular electric food processor that's BPA-free. So I started researching manual baby food-makers, and came across the Boon Mush. This is a deceptively-simple device consisting of 3 sharp metal blades that the user spins within a bowl by pulling on a ring connected to a string. At first, I was skeptical about how a product resembling a child's toy (minus the sharp blades) could possibly dice and chop fruits and vegetables finely enough to make baby food. Well, the Boon Mush made a believer out of me! Its 3 blades minced everything we put in it, from steamed carrots to mangoes, efficiently and effectively. The consistency of the finished product depends on the amount of time and power you put into pulling the cord mechanism to rotate the blades, and of course, the type of food you start with (juicy vs. dry). On that note, the Boon Mush will not make 100% smooth purees like you might get with an electric food processor or high-end blender. Rather, as its name suggests, the finest consistency you can get is a textured "mush" containing very small bits of food. Therefore, this product may not be ideal for making baby food for an infant who's just getting started on solid foods. But once your baby is ready for textured solids, the Boon Mush is likely to become one of your "go-to" baby food-making devices. It's BPA-free, which is a huge plus. And, as an added bonus, it can be used to dice and chop fruits and veggies for "adult" food once your little-one has outgrown baby food.

Buy Boon Mush Manual Baby Food Processor, Tangerine Now

i have a one year old that cannot chew meat or chicken so i bought this hoping that i would be able to mash up meat for her. this merely shreds chicken and even to do that, it needs a lot of liquid. i put chunks of cooked beef in here, that i had cut up and it did nothing. the meat chunks just got stuck on the ends of the blades and all that happened when i pulled the string was the meat wiping the bowl. terrible product. excellent idea, but poor execution. what it did do well was with noodle soups the noodles were cut into bitesize pieces but i don't think that it justifies the keeping of this product.

i can see how this would do well with very soft foods with considerable liquid but if foods are already that soft, i don't need to use the boon mush for it.

use at your own risk, make sure you can get free returns. also, clean up is not as easy as it claims. any liquid splashes out, gets inside the top of the lid, and sometimes on the inside of the lid. when you chop up hot foods, the lid has a tendency to get stuck from the suction. so either you need super strength to undo it, or wait until it cools down.

i will be returning this. i'm surprised by all of the good reviews.

I really do love this, but over time the lid has become really difficult to get off at times. I must admit, I do panic sometimes thinking I won't be able to get it off. I have used mine for about 6 months and it just seems to have become a tighter fit over time. I did order another one so that I could have a second, so I am not saying that I don't like it. It is a better price and more of a convenience than many other food processors.

Update: After about 8 months of use, the top and the bottom of the lid together, came undone. I am still able to stick it back together for use, but I have to be very careful when using it to not turn it too hard. I think my biggest issue with this item is poor durability.

Want Boon Mush Manual Baby Food Processor, Tangerine Discount?

i love boon. i love how this product looks. i love the idea. but it just doesn't do what it says it's supposed to do. prehaps more appropriate for a toddler but certainly not for baby food. the poorer reviews already say it all. i just had to put my 2 cents in so that the overall reviews aren't skewed. when i bought it when i was still pregnant i think the reviews were 5 stars. i didn't even bother reading the reviews in detail. bygones.

bottom line. it chops. soft items only really. can't handle meat. and even with a ton of liquid, you end up with wet chopped food. does not puree. additionally, the size of the container is quite large. my 9 month old can really only eat about 1-2 ounces of solids at a time. and it doesn't chop well unless you have around 10-20 ounces of food. so making 'fresh' food that i have to freeze for my child doesn't work great for me.
