The First Years Smartwarmer

I did my research on bottle warmers and settled on the Baby Pro Smart Warmer. I love how it's customizable and you only have to press one button after you set it up. The buttons are self explanatory and it heats the formula quickly. There is no need to refill water everytime you use it, just once in awhile. You do have to play around to find the best settings but after that, you just press one button.

The only thing that is problematic is that the beeping is very loud, although there is an option to turn it off. I leave it on so I can know when it's done when I'm in another room.

I purchased this at a store, foolishly not reading the reviews beforehand. Setting it appropriately is non-trivial, especially when you have to explain it to anyone. When properly set, milk and formula warmth is inconsistent. Sometimes it is scalding, sometimes it doesn't seem to warm at all. Generally it under-warms, so we have to set it a higher setting and then run the bottles under cold water afterwards to insure a usable temperature. I've had the product completely fail to work on a couple occasions, which have required unplugging it to reset it. At 3 am, I want to be able to throw a bottle into the warmer, hit the start button and come back when it's ready and know that it's ready, which I can't do with this product.

I have used this bottle warmer for about a year now and it has suddenly started to leak on the bottom. I looked underneath it and realized there is a crack because the screw used to hold the plastic together has rusted and caused a line crack in the plastic. Of course it is out of warranty now. Prior to this, I had the same warmer but returned it to the store since the electronics were not working properly. Like one user said, it has a mind of its own and I believe the electronics on it were fried. It also cracked one of our glass bottles and the glass bottle shattered when we took it out. So I would not buy this warmer again. I wanted a cheap warmer but I guess you get what you pay for. Never again.

I have the older version of this product, and LOVE it. It's grey, but looks exactly the same. I tried a few other warmers at first, but they did not do the job like this one does, plus other warmers had weird quirks, were not user friendly, etc. I tried an Avent one that said you had to refill every time you warmed, or check the water (too high maintenance), also Munchkin one from Target that sucked completely--didn't warm at all, plus you had to refill water constantly also. I actually purchased two of these warmers, one for upstairs and downstairs (I got mine from Target for $41 each), then they went on clearance for $20. (I had two babies, 13 months apart). Unfortunately Babies R Us doesn't carry this item, and Target no longer does. I never saw the item anywhere else (than Target) but Amazon. I am so dependent on these warmers that I bought a third warmer (when it was on clearance, just in case). I've recommended this to a friend, also. So far the other two warmers have been fine, my sister is pregnant now, so I plan to give her the unopened warmer I bought months ago. I really like how the buttons are user-friendly, consistent (if used properly), and low maintenance. I try to keep the water filled in the reservoir, but it's unnecessary, I believe you need to fill only once daily. I also have the Avent bottles (which I LOVE also), I bought the blue ones for my son & pink for my daughter. One word of advice, since the bottles are plastic, I noticed that you must go up on the volume settings, so it gets the milk to the right temp (for example, if there's 5 oz of milk, then warm the bottle at 6-7 oz). I read somewhere that if glass bottles are used, then you go by the exact volume, since glass is more sensitive to the heat. Of course, this is has been my experience with my warmers. (Make sure you check the milk temp regardless!) Also, sometimes when my babies don't finish their bottles right away, it's easy to re-warm the milk, just adjust the setting to room temp. I have used both breast milk and Enfamil formula constantly in these warmers, and have not been disappointed one bit. I'm surprised that people have given them such bad reviews. Honestly, I could say I've gotten my money's worth for this item, and haven't even done the recommended descaling (that's recommended for many products like sterilizers/warmers/etc.) in the now nearly 16 months of using them--that's how low maintenance it is! The buttons are user friendly, with settings to warm different volumes, different temps, different sizes of bottles (and baby food jars--although I never used it for baby food), and breast milk/formula. Very smart warmer!!

I used this bottle warmer for 10-11 months (as long as my son was picky) and never had a problem with it. I had a tommee tipped bottle warmer previously and that thing just kept cooking the milk, I love that this one stops on it's own and lets you know when it is done. Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program My resistance to getting a baby food maker like this was based on my fear of having a large, hard to clean appliance that would make a mess. I'm someone who hates speciality appliances, as I have a NYC kitchen.

I am very happy to say that this appliance is actually very small, and fits in a cabinet (although it doesn't take up too much space on the counter anyway). Think about 2 mugs sitting next to each other. It takes up about that much space. Also, it is very non-messy. You steam and blend in the same container, which is SMALL (the downside is, it won't work for someone who wants to make 20 meals at a time). Cleanup is easy. I would compare the mess and hassle to making coffee using a french press if you grind your own beans. It's about the same effort in my opinion, and the same mess.

Today I made organic sweet potatoes and carrots, and I ate half of it. Oops. That's ok I'm not big on freezing this is simple enough to make fresh every day. If you want to start REALLY easy, get a bag of baby carrots. For those, you can toss them straight from the bag into the basket.

How does it work:

Pour water in the tank

Put vegetables (or whatever) in the basket)

Press the "on" button and wait until it beeps, letting you know it's done

Come back, flip the basket over, in the same container that was used to steam

hold the dial in the "blend" position until it's blended as you wish

DONE

Now you can quickly rinse the container, and you're done. No mess. The no mess is really the thing I want to stress. I feel like most people who don't make their own baby food are worried more about the mess than the prep. It's easy to take a sweet potato out of the fridge and cut it into pieces. The hassle is in the cleanup, right? I can tell you there really is nothing to clean. It's easier than rinsing out a blender because it's so small.

Anyway one thing to mention more as an FYI than a downside to the machine ...

It's IMPOSSIBLE to open when you first get it. Seriously difficult. I was about to call the manufacturer because I thought the lid was welded shut. I came here to see if anyone addressed this in a review, but no one did. Then I looked back in the instruction booklet, and it mentioned "The lid may be difficult to open the first 2-3 uses." Ok well that gave me the confidence to use force along the lines of "I think this much force will break the whole thing." And when I did, the lid finally came off. It has loosened up and been easier to open in the times since. But just note that if you buy this, you may have a lot of trouble getting the lid off the first time. It's hard enough that they must have gotten some indication to know they need to let you know in the instruction booklet.

Aside from that, this is a fantastic little baby food maker. I highly recommend. The biggest pros are that it's small and no mess. If you were looking for something to make a dozen portions at a time though, this is too small for that.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program The Cook-n-Blend has a lot of utility for new parents and parents of toddlers but it is also quite useful as a kitchen appliance. It is a VERY handy and easy to use steamer that busy parents will appreciate. It also does make pureed baby food and a more chunky version. I've also used it for salsa with good results. And it has a smoothie blade. It is powerful enough to crush ice pretty well. But my favorite feature is the steamer.

Steaming food preserves a lot of nutrients. It also is usually a method that produces results that babies and toddlers like. This is just a fantastic steamer; tasty results and you can set it and go on to other kitchen tasks or whatever. You put water into a level the instruction book lists as appropriate for that vegetable. You then put the vegetables in. The machine heats the water and puts it under the basket. The basket also has a divider that is handy when you want to keep two things separate and save time. It also turns the machine off. The results have been uniformly pleasing to the whole family: soft, thoroughly done vegetables that are not mushy at all.

You then have a more traditional food processor. One setting purees and is very powerful. The other one leaves more chunks but is also pretty powerful. As I mentioned above you can use it for regular food processor chores. It also has a smoothie blade that has produced good results.

There is one very annoying design flaw. Nuk made it EXTREMELY hard to read the water level when you are steaming. I use a light app on my iPhone and I still can't tell where the water is. They should have made the level lines white but instead they are barely discernible. I also got a small cut unpacking the smoothie blade. It is very sharp and had gone through the plastic wrap. Just something to keep an eye out for.

This is a well-designed and very useful product. The recipes offer good combination, are fairly simple (although I don't need to skin tomatoes in my recipes something the author loves to recommend) and come in a nice spiral notebook. Here is the thing though: many people have steamers, many people have food processors. Is something that does both well worth getting?

I think it would make an excellent shower gift or first year gift. Things that allow you to walk away and not check on things are invaluable to parents of young ones. It also gets warm but not hot when steaming. But overall much safer than another pot of boiling water. There is always a space issue when you get a new kitchen appliance. The design really is compact for the size of the bowl. I do recommend it. Anyone giving or getting this for themselves will find a lot of utility.

However, after using this product a few times, I'm making it all the time! First I started off small and made "banana blueberry" recipe that came in the small book that was included with the baby food maker. If you can slice a banana and measure 1/3 cup of blueberries, you can make your own baby food. It steams for ~14 minutes and then you blend it. It's easy to clean dishwasher safe. Last night, my Mom made Sunday dinner that consisted of chicken, mashed potatoes, glazed carrots and applesauce. Well, I took a little of everything and blended it up when I got home last night and made a 'chicken dinner' baby food. It's totally a hit! You can be quite flexible with the types of food that you make. There are some recipes for chicken sweet potato that involve steaming partially cooked chicken however, I prefer to add cooked chicken after the other items have been steamed, just to be sure it's fully cooked. The recipes included with this are from the "Top 100 Baby Purees" book, which we also own and never used until now! Now I am unstoppable :) And, I will say the food tastes so much better. My little guy is tearing it up, and my daughter is even eating the fruit purees like she would yogurt. Definitely a hit!

UPDATE: I bought 1 sweet potato for about 90 cents at the grocery story and this made about 4 jars of baby food. I also used baby carrots, cut them in thirds, and made food with those no peeling, no rinsing. (Like I said, I don't cook very often). And, I made a batch of apple/strawberry/blueberry that came out great. With some of the extra, I froze it into pops and my infant and toddler both loved them! My baby is teething and was refusing to eat any solid foods for a few days (of course, now that I was whipping them up like crazy!) but the popsicle went over great. You can make both big batches and smaller batches, and freeze whatever you don't plan to use within a few days.

I purchased this before there were any reviews and have owned it for about 6 months. I have now used it to make all my little guys meals. He has only had to have store bought baby food twice.

What I LOVE about this machine:

I do not have to pull anything extra out to cook with it. I peel, chop and throw in whatever I want to make. I add water depending on the fruit or veggie I add. I press the button, I walk away. In 13-17 mins it beeps. I usually wait to start and have waited up to 30 mins after it beeped to start making baby food (because I was wrapped up with a toddler and an infant) and the food is still steamy and happy when I get to it.

Yes you can do this on a stove top, yes you could use a blender.....BUT this takes up NO real extra room, I do not have to wash pots and pans, or a BLENDER, which I hate trying to wash those. It really is very simple to take the cook-n-blend apart I have not had any trouble cleaning it. Plus you lose nutrients on the stove top. This locks them in and you use the water you cook with to puree.

When I make baby food this is what I use, the basket from the machine, a knife, a measuring cup, a vegetable peeler and a rubber spatula. Everything I have made so far has made 12oz or more, I have a freezer full of ready to eat baby food. I have tasted everything and my toddler LOVED the sweet potato butternut squash mash I made. I pureed the rest and froze it for the baby.

What I didn't like about the machine:

It is hard to open at first, but with each use it gets easier.

The water level indicator is very hard to read, I just finally figured out how much water to put in a bottle to get it to the line I need without having to worry. 7oz gets it to the max line, and 5oz gets it to the second line, about 2oz gets it the first.

The book they send with the Nuk Cook-n-Blend is mostly stuff for older babies, not babies in stage one.

So I have 2 kidsa 4 yr old and 7 month old. I bought this after researching several makers.I will start by saying this does a great job making baby food. It is easy to useput the water in as instructed (they DEF NEED to make the water line easier to read though!!), put in your chopped fruits/veg and push the button. When it's done it beeps and you need to grab a measuring cup or mug to reserve the "steaming" water so you can add some back to the food you are then going to puree. Pretty easy to clean. The thing is this does not make much at once. I used I apple and 1 pear together and that was about all I could steam and it made two 4oz serving. It took 17 min to steam the food. So, do the mathIn one hour I could make 8 cont. of food. Maybe if I didn't work and have an older child as well I could see making the food this like this but for me it's just not that practical. I can just as easily steam a whole bunch of stuff (or bake) at once then throw it in a blender and have more. The unit itself is also a pretty good sizeyet another appliance on the counter.... But if you can commit yourself to making food every other day then this may be perfect! Also it says you can reheat and defrost but I didn't see how that would work as the basket has a piece in the middle that doesn't remove so I don't understand that part and it didn't say anything about it in the directions.

I am a mom of 4 kids and sometimes, I can't keep up with things that needs to be done so I need a timer for reminders. But here's a couple of ideas on how am using Freshminder. My kids need a timer to do their chores sometime after school when their homework gets done. I give one to each kid and I set it for lets say, two hours. Then, it counts down to 2 hrs. and when 2 hours is over, it's time to do their chores. I don't hv to stress on things not getting done and hv to give my kids constant reminders to do their chores...Now, here's how it's useful for me. I am on meds for a wk and I need to take my 1st medication 3 times a day and the 2nd meds, twice a day. I wrap the timers on the meds so I when it's time for me to take it, I know which one to take at the time and reset it to continue for the next few hours am due for it... so I don't miss a dose! This only counts down by hours, not by minutes. It's still useful for me, though.

I left for a few hours and put these on the bottles of breast milk before I left. It was great because then he didn't have to keep track of how long they were good for.

These are super easy to use. There are two buttons. I didn't even need to read the directions to figure it out. Simple simple.

Thermos Foogo Stack N Lock

The color paint melted due to the heat of the food inside the can.

Its cover is not a microwave safe one.

Other than that, I have no complain.

It does have the right size for my 3 year old boy. Not too big not too small.

This is good for school lunches. It's wider and easier to eat out of than some. I like that you can stack and lock these if you need to carry more than one. This does keep your food warm.

Our little one (7 months old) enjoys sucking on ice in it. We expect it to be extremely useful as she begins to teethe. The design of the cap (which has a flat base) is preferable to some of the other mesh teethers' caps because you can rest the teether in it without food/ice going on the counter. (For example, Nuk's mesh teether has more of a rounded cap.) So far, our little one hasn't figured out how to chomp on the bag when food is in it; since she likes it for her ice, she gets frustrated when something else is in it. Kids Preferred Spot 5 Piece Feeding Set

I chose this set because I wanted one that had a two-handled cup. The cup is great (we don't use the cover that came with it) easy to handle, just the right size. The other elements are also nice, especially the spoon and fork. The spoon is a nice size and shape, and the fork tines are pointed enough to actually stab a piece of food successfully, unlike many toddler forks in which the tines are too rounded to make it function. The plate and bowls are a nice size and are light and durable. The spot motif appeals to my toddler, who likes her 'Spot's First Walk' book.

This was a hit for my son's 1st birthday. All of the pieces are well made and sturdy. Well worth the price. I like that it features just Spot and my son did too.

My grandson was delighted with the images of Spot on his dishes. "Where's Spot?" is one of his earliest favorites and at 16 months, I gave him this feeding set and he was so delighted he had to be constrained from dumping out his food to look at Spot. He loves to hold the utensils in one hand while he eats with the other, then take the utensils with him when he gets down from his high chair. So this is a big fave with the grandson. It's a big fave with me and his parents as well. It's well-made, attractive, and has held up nicely through many dishwasher cycles.

Packin' Smart Butterfly Series 3-tier

These containers are a must have for any diaper bag. I bought two sets. In one I keep snacks and in the other I keep powdered formula. They store great in our diaper bag and make dispensing the formula into bottles super easy. Plus, if we are out shopping or what-not, I can take one tier off and give it to my LO so she can feed herself snacks to keep busy. Very nice.

The concept of this is really good but the spaces are just to small for snacks. I bought so i could take my daughter snacks around but I stopped using it. You can fit very small amounts and i prefer something she can actually put her hands and grab from. This doesn't meet my expectations. I see how it could work for formula but there are smaller ones for that purpose.

Skip Hop Zoo Bib

I love skip hop and own lots of items by them. This is one item that I am completely dissatisfied with. The bib is cute ( bought the ladybug version) but that's about it. Not only does it allow foods to leak through, the design is coming off as well. And that's only after about three uses or so. Don't waste your money!

This bib is great! We had the monkey version, and liked it so much that we recently bought the owl. It has all of the things I normally look for in a bib--it's big enough to cover a meaningful amount of her chest, it washes easily, and has a big pocket to trap dropped food. The velcro is the soft, non-grabby variety. (Why don't all baby items feature this velcro? It's awesome!) I wouldn't exactly call it waterproof, but we've also never had anything soak through--she's eaten extremely soggy frozen/thawed strawberries in it, and none of the sticky red mess ended up on her shirt.

But the thing we love most about this bib is it's portability. The whole bib can be tucked into a pocket on the back. The resulting package is really small and light. And because you turn the pocket inside out to tuck the bib in, any mess on the bib gets completely contained. So it's perfect for throwing into a bag. I have one in my (very small) purse at all times, and because it's turned inside out after use, I don't worry about what is on it when I throw it in the bag. I have no idea why other companies haven't copied this design--it's so brilliant!

The only downside of the Skip Hop bib is the price--it's considerably more expensive than some cheap-o bibs you might buy. But we've never regretted buying them. We use them 10 times more than any other bib we own, because they're so much better!

1) not very absorbent baby drool leaked through within the first 5 minutes. The bib is very lightweight almost feels like nylon but for that reason, it seems like it's not very absorbent.

2) doesn't fold into the pocket like it's supposed to no matter what we did, we could not get it to fold neatly into the pocket like the picture on the package. It rolls up, but it doesn't stay tucked in.

3) pretty expensive, for what ends up being kind of a decorative bib

Maybe this bib would be better only for feeding? Not sure, but it isn't a very good drool bib. But did I mention that it's absolutely adorable?
