I didn't want to go with the conventional "waterproof" bibs, since most of them have PVC backings. (PVC is very eco-UNfriendly; it tends to off-gas a lot and often contains phthalates, which can be unhealthy for babies). So instead, I tried a ton of other bibs with waterproof backings made of polyester instead of PVC (vinyl). But they all suffered from one major flaw: They left a gap between the neckline of the bib and my daughter's neck, so her spit-up and drool would leak through that gap, leaving her neck and chest wet. Disposable bibs were also a bust, since they're also gappy at the neck, and most were too big for my petite baby, as they're typically designed for babies at least 6 months old.
One day, in desperation, I Googled every term I could think of that might find me a waterproof, non-toxic bib that wouldn't leak at the neck. Fortunately, I came across a message board for parents of reflux babies, where someone recommended Silly Billyz bibs. Unlike other bibs on the market, Silly Billyz have an ingenious, elasticized "snuggle neck," which stretches to fit around baby's neck without being the least bit constricting or uncomfortable. The bibs also have 2 button snaps, making them even more adjustable for smaller or bigger necks. They're also PVC-free, phthalate-free, non-toxic and safe for babies. One visit to the Silly Billyz website, and I ordered several of the bibs on-the-spot.
These bibs performed as well (or even better!) in reality than described online. They've literally become my everyday "go-to" bibs; so much so that I ordered some more within a week of receiving my initial order! The snuggle neckline prevents drool and spit-up from leaking onto my baby's neck, and the waterproof, polyester/nylon backing keeps her chest completely dry. No more frequent outfit-changes or doing laundry daily! What's more, the bibs come in a variety of colors that can be matched to pretty much any outfit (which is a good thing, since my baby is constantly in bibs when she's awake!). And the newborn "biblet" size is small enough that it doesn't obstruct my baby when she's rolling, playing and toddling around, but big enough to provide real coverage where needed. I plan on buying the larger-sized bibs (and the ones with crumb pockets) when she reaches 6-months-old and starts eating solids.
If you're the parent of a baby with reflux, a copious spitter or drooler, you absolutely MUST get these bibs. They're not super-cheap, but the extra $$ are totally worth it. They're truly a sanity-saver!!When my grandson was 2 months old he was drooling to the point of often having a damp neck and chest and his outfit had to be changed two or three times a day. I looked at reviews online for drooling bibs and chose this one. I made the right choice. Bernie wears the bibs every day, and damp clothes are no longer a problem. My son and daughter-in-law were appreciative of the useful gift. The bibs are well made, wash well, and don't seem to bother Bernie in the least.
