Eventually I realized that the top of the cans of soda I always buy (Coke) have changed... There is a slant just inside the top instead of going straight down and that is what is causing the problem. I then saw the same new top on 7-up cans, from a different company. This may be the same issue with all new cans, but these are the only ones I have seen.
Please check the top of the cans you want to use these on. If the angle just inside the rim is about 45 degrees instead of straight down you will probably have this problem. My first review (way down below) was written after about a week of using the tops at which time I gave them a 5 star rating.
My second review, after five months, was written when I had broken three of them trying to get them off the empty can, and I gave it three stars because I hadn't found the trick to getting the cap to let go ... I had not figured out what makes them decide to cling tenaciously to the can and I said I probably won't buy any more.
WELL NOW, FINALLY, I KNOW THE TRICK!! Trying to take them off the cold can when the plastic is also cold and stiff was the problem. All you have to do is wait til the warm up or run them under warm water. When they become more flexible again they come off easily. Four stars and I'm buying more!
Original Review:
I don't know what all the controversy is about ... these things work GREAT! At least, after I read the directions they did. The first time I just tried to force one over an open can and wound up bending the can and spilling soda all over. THEN I read the directions. Quite simple, really; just unscrew the cap, place on top of the can, and then push on the top between the "ears". Snapped right on my Coke product cans. When you're done, push the ears towards the middle and it comes right off.
No longer have to put up with flat soda for the three days it takes me to drink one. Try 'em.

These are great, wasted a lot of money on the other so called can tops, these do all they claim, easy to use, easy to clean. This isn't some kind of miracle product that will keep your pop fizzy for days, but if you won't finish a whole can at once or just need to keep your can covered you don't have a lot of options. This allows you to close the can back up so it won't spill. After 24 hours there is still a little bit of fizz left, but not a whole lot. More than a day and all the fizz will be gone completely. These can toppers are awesome! My employer does not allow drinks that are not in spill proof containers. These allow me to drink from cans. They are super easy to take on and off. Everyone asks me where I got them. I purchased the first 3 I got at Wal-mart for $1 each, but they have been sold out for months so I ordered these 3 for $10 because they are worth it! I have tried other can toppers (as seen on TV, etc.) and they are either flimsy or difficult to get off of the can once you are finished with it.
