Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program First of all, I love that the salad set is made of recycled materials, is BPA free, and is made in the U.S. The salad bowl, plate, serving spoon and fork, and faux veggies are heavy duty plastic and are machine washable a big plus.

What I don't understand is why the salt, pepper, oil and vinegar "containers" are made of cardboard. This toy set shows that children as young as 24 months can play with it. Children that young immediately put everything in their mouth and if something is made of cardboard, guess what happens? Disintegrated toy. Plus these little cardboard doohickies are not the easiest things to put together (you have to fold, insert tabs, and tape). I never was able to figure out the top of the oil and vinegar "containers" and I feel like I am at least a little mechanically inclined. And of course, no instructions. It would have cost pennies, I would imagine, to make these containers from plastic and had the whole set be extra durable.

Also, I would have made this with two plates rather than one. If you are making a salad, you usually want to sit down and eat with someone else.

So the heavy duty salad prep items and vegs get 4 stars (would have been 5 stars with another plate). The cardboard items get a big thumbs down and 1 star. I gave the overall set 3 stars because most of it is durable, machine washable and a great learning toy.

Plastic pieces are extremely high quality stuff, surpassing plastic utensils, bowl, and plates that my 3-year old kid uses. Smooth, safe, dishwasher friendly, and super durable plastic. My only quibble is inclusion of just one plate and lack of salad forks.

Vegetable pieces are realistically molded and very durable. And they are fully compatible and interchangeable with other Green Toys kitchen play sets, such as Green Toys Sandwich Shop and Green Toys Pizza Parlor.

The main problem lies in cardboard-based pieces: olive oil, vinegar, salt, and pepper jars. While putting them together can be educational (challenging for under 5-year olds) and fun, they are all too fragile for prolonged use.

Still, they are priced quite fairly and plastic pieces are among the very highest quality plastic kitchen toys out there.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program Within 2 minutes of putting together the little cardboard items of the oil, pepper, and salt, it became shreded confetti in the hands of my twin toddlers. I'm not sure why those items were cardboard in the first place, it would make more sense to make them plastic like rest of the stuff. I can't recommend this item to young children since they tore up it so quickly then commenced to eat the paper bits.

As for the actualy salad toys, bowl, plate, and sald mixings they did enjoy playing w/ it but they also would have been happy w/ any bowl and utensils already in your pantry, with whatever thrown in their bowl.

I would definitely never purchase this project nor would I recommend.

My mom has gone a little nuts spoiling her grand kids and has gone on an "only made in U of A" kick as of late so she's purchased several GreenToys items for the kids. Our 4 year old is nutty about this set. She loves to try to cook things with me and this set lets her make her amazing salad concoctions. The fact that there are more vegetables like onions and peppers in here is genius. Pieces are nice and thick and well made. They're also dishwasher safe so when her salads include sand and worms, I can just toss them on the top rack. Wish I had caught on to GreenToys sooner but now that we have a few of their products we will be back for more. I don't usually buy just because things are made in the US but their stuff is so nice, durable and reasonably priced that there's really no reason not to. Can't wait to see what Grandma brings over next!

I am a huge fan of Green Toys products already and love that they came out with this. Their stuff is all made in the USA and made from recycled products which is a huge plus, but it's also really durable and well made. My kids are all about trying to cook their own meals and helping me out in the kitchen and they love having this set to make "salads" with. You get a whole lot of pieces with this and they really do look similar to the real thing so kids can recognize the real vegetable. I love that they include so many veggies in the set too now my kids know that salad isn't just lettuce! There are cucumbers and mushrooms and red peppers and onions. I highly recommend this set!
