KidCo BabySteps Basic Natural Feeding System

KidCo BabySteps Basic Natural Feeding SystemThis excellent product allows me to easily make healthy, tasty, homemade baby food puree with minimal effort and quick clean up! My daughter is new to solid food and the KidCo processor is able to make very smooth purees when some liquid is added to the cooked food. Clean up is a snap because the motor is housed in the lid and the other parts are dishwasher safe. Some reviewers were displeased with the lack of an on-off switch; but in actuality, pressing the motor housed in the lid activates the blades. The turbo feature can be pulsated for a finer puree. Some reviewers also found that the lid sticks; this happened to me once and I realized that you must use caution when twisting the lid into place. If it does get stuck, turn it gently in the opposite direction to reallign the tabs and it will pop right off. I was also quite pleased with the freezer trays. Some reviewers found that it was difficult to remove the food cubes, (yummy squash-pops!)but I simply gave it a light spray with olive oil before spooning in the puree and made sure they were frozen completely solid before attempting removal. I was so pleased with this product that I am giving it to my sister-in-law as a Christmas gift!

My son and daughter-in-law are quite particular about what goes into their 10-month-old's tummy and I'm all behind that, so more often than not, I make him something from scratch for lunch when he and his mommy pop in. I'd been using my little Cuisinart Mini-Prep-Processor to grind everything up, but it wasn't quite going the distance and left lots of chunks bigger than he could cope with. I read the reviews of the KidCo BabySteps Basic Natural Feeding System and decided to buy one, even though I tend to be something of a penny pincher when I think I can get away with it. Now I wish I'd had this from the start. It really purees everything from bananas to chicken and clean-up is dead easy since the motor is in the top and never gets near the food. I could have done without the freezer trays, since we make all his food fresh and don't use a microwave on his food as we would have to do to warm it over, but I was so delighted with how easy this was to use and how well it works that I got another one for my daughter-in-law and she's delighted, too.

I LOVE this machine! It works just as I would expect and the turbo button helps with the harder foods or the ones with thick skin. I love the fact that the blade can be taken out after blending and you can scrape EVERYTHING out of the bowl without trying to work around a blade. It is very easy and simple to wash as well. It takes longer to cook the food than to blend it (which is a GREAT thing). I can not say enough good things about this product. I have not used the trays yet because I bought silicone ones and have been using those first.

******WARNING/ADVICE****

make sure you line the tabs on the lid to the bowl carefully. I got my lid stuck and couldn't get it off so I came online looking for reviews with the same problem and they said if you aren't careful it gets stuck and to gently/carefully twist the lid in the opposite way and it pops right off THANK GOSH for those reviews (I almost gave up and almost threw it away) it worked and lid came off and from there on i make sure I line the tabs up with the holes and haven't had a problem since. (the reviews were on another site).

I am disappointed with this product. I wish I had spent a little more money on a better product. Although it is pretty easy to use, I am disappointed with the final pureed food.

Pros:

Easy to clean

Good size

Ok price

The freezer packs are easy to fit in the freezer.

Cons:

The lid get really stuck on, especially when I use the "turbo" feature; it seriously hurts my hands trying to get it off (and I have strong hands).

Very loud -my 9 month old cries when I turn it on.

Doesn't puree small amounts of food -it just gets stuck below the blade.

Leaves chunks when pureering difficult foods.

I know that pureeing chicken is a difficult process but this food processor really does not do the job. There were huge chunks of chicken left. It also did not puree green beans very well; again, it left pretty big chunks and strings. I was hoping for a smoother puree. It does a great job with things like carrots and sweet potatoes.

Update on 3/14/11 -Item stopped working after just 1.5 months of normal, weekly use. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! The electricity runs but the blades do not spin. Instead of purchasing this item, buy the Cuisinart Mini Food Processor. It is made of way higher quality -I have had it for three years and still runs great. I didn't realize that it would puree food, otherwise I never would have bought the KidCo pureer.

This is an awesome product! It's super easy to use and clean. I have no problems at all with the trays. You don't need to use any olive oil spray either... just give the tray a gentle twist and the frozen foods pop right out. It blends everything very smoothly. Even peas, green beans and carrots. I cannot say enough good things about it. I use it all the time. My daughter is ten months and is ready for thicker and chunkier foods and this works well for those too. Though you do have to be careful not to overheat the motor when making thicker foods.

Dr. Bronner'S Organic Bar Soaps Pure Castile

Dr Bronners Bar Soap Organic Almond 5 ozI am a soldier serving in Iraq, where as you may know, it gets pretty hot here. After a full day out in the desert sun in all of my gear, I find myself dreaming of the moment when I can get in the shower and cool off with Dr. Bronner's soap. It works great. Lathers great, and leaves me feeling cleaner than chemical soaps, not to mention the fact that it feels very cool and tingly. Although I am military, which may go against what Dr. Bronner's philosophy suggests, I am a country boy who loves the outdoors, and the conservation and protection of our environment. I will always choose products made in America so as to support the businesses of my fellow Americans, and will always choose organic items over those items which use ingredients that I can't pronounce, or in which animals are senselessly wasted.

I suggest you use this product for all the right reasons.

It comes in funky orange packaging, has a strong medicinal smell, but man ..it's the best soap I've ever used!

Previous to switching to Dr. Bronner's, I was using some run of the mill Sam's Club body wash. I had problems with back acnie, oil buildup (especially around the nose) and fungus (itching).

I remember washing with it for the first time, not knowing what to expect (if anything). After rising off, I actually felt clean! Those oily areas were no longer oily. Drying off, my skin felt tighter and smoother. As time went on, I noticed that a certain area was a lot less itchy and irritated. My backnie problem went from multiple large sores to one small one at the moment. Same with the face zits are a lot less common and generally smaller. I also had a problem with facial hair becoming partially ingrown, resulting in either zits or inflammation. It was so bad that they would catch my electric razor and start bleeding every time I shaved. Today, I can usually shave without bleeding! I used to have bad chlorine itch after swimming. After washing off with this, I had no problems with chlorine itch.

There are things it's not good for, though. First, it'll strip every bit of oil and crud right out of your hair. Mine becomes a straw-textured, fluffy mess if I just use Bronner's. About once a week, I'll wash my hair with it, then use my normal shampoo/conditioner this prevents product buildup. My hair feels softer and more manageable after doing this.

I would also advise against using it as a hand soap. After multiple uses per day, my hands started peeling because they got so dried out. Oh... and keep it away from the eyes. It really stings.

I ran out of this stuff over Christmas break and couldn't find it locally, so I switched back to the body wash. Sure enough, the backnie returned, along with the fungus and everything else.

What makes it so special anyway?

First, the formulation used is simply effective no filler, no scents, just good soap. Second and most important is the Tea Tree Oil, which is a really good natural antiseptic. This explains its effectiveness with acne, fungus and the like. Secondly, it's very anti-inflammatory, hence the "skin tightening" effect.

I love the scent of almond, and this soap has a wonderful, lightly sweet almond scent. The ingredients are all natural, no man-made chemicals, no animal testing, and organic too! I love the way my skin feels after wahing with this soap, squeaky-clean. I also love that it will not leave a nasty soap scum on my shower, bathtub or sink. I am usually VERY particular about the shampoo I use, but I tried this soap out on my hair too, just for the heck of it. My naturally curly hair needs some form of conditioner or it gets frizzy so I follwed up with my usual leave-in anti-friz product and my hair looked great. It didn't leave my hair feeling dry, or heavy, but instead it felt light and bouncy, and my curls seemed to have a better definition. So, now I soap up from head to toe with Dr. Bronner's Castile Soap, and I feel good about my choice.

This review is about the Rose scent

The soap itself is great, but to me the rose scent does not smell like roses. It might as well be called Flowers. I was hoping it would smell like rose water, but it is not distinctive. Wish I had know that before I ordered.

Goodbyn Mix and Match Food Container

Goodbyn Mix and Match Food Container, GreenI bought this set for my Kindergartener's lunch bag thinking it would be easy to open and small enough for her lunch bag. Unfortunately the containers are difficult to close and rather large too large for a child size lunch bag.

i can't return this now too late b/c i threw away the packaging... but the lids do not snap closed at all. the food spills out everywhere! i am hoping the manufacturer can send me a new lid... will try to get in touch with them. in the meantime, this is kind of a hassle.

Earth's Best Organic 1st, Prunes, 2.5 Ounce JarsIf there is a clog in your little ones pipes, enjoy these tasty prunes. Cautionthey may work too well... be prepared for a prunenami!!

Added these prunes to our baby girl's diet to get things "moving" again. She loved them, and now is as regular as mom and dad! As far as the BPA? we researched: amount is negligible and is contained under a non BPA layer. No contact with the food at all. Therefore no BPA in the food whatsoever.

I usually always buy and make organic non-gmo foods, for my daughter. However, if I am crunched for time or a particular food is not in season, I will choose Earth's Best. My daughter loves all of the foods offered and I too thought they tasted good. I did contact the company when I saw claims that BPA was still in the lids and the phasing out process wouldn't take place until October of 2012. Not only did they respond quickly, they informed me that BPA has not been part of their packaging process since October 2011 ( I have included the email below). Great Company, absolutely love their products!

I try to make all my son's food, but there are a few things that are more difficult than others. I bought these prunes instead of trying to make my own, and my son really likes them. I liked them too, knowing that they are organic, but then I realized that they have citric acid added.

I don't want my baby's food to taste like anything other than what it is, so I was a little disappointed to see the citric acid, especially since there are reviewers that say the citric acid in the EB bananas makes them taste terrible. I tasted these prunes and Plum Organic prunes in the pouches, and the Plum did taste better. Plum Organics doesn't add citric acid to their prunes.

My son loves both kinds, since he is evidently a fan of prunes. But I will not be buying these again.

Enfamil Infant Formula Powder, A.R.

Enfamil A.R. Infant Formula for Spit-up, For Babies 0-12 Months, 22.2-ounceMy daughter has a moderate reflux problem and this formula was recommended by her doctor. It greatly reduces the amount and frequency of her reflux, and I find that once she had been on the formula for a few weeks she no longer had trouble with constipation. Her doctor advised me to give her 1 ounce of prune juice diluted with 1 ounce of water whenever she went more than 30 hours without having a bowel movement, and that really does the trick to get things moving again. She also said that only 50% of infants have long term constipation issues with the A.R. formula.

The whole point of this formula is to prevent spit up. However, our daughter could not drink it because the powder created too many bubbles once mixed (and we tried all the tricks mixed it with a spoon, kept it in the refrigerator for hours...). We now feed our daughter the ready-to-feed Enfamil AR and it works like a charm. But the powder was not an answer for us.

This formula has been a Godsend for my baby with horrible reflux. She was having weight issues because of her reflux and after 2.5 months of using this formula she is very healthy and thriving. She's way ahead of the curve on her milestones and she's 75th% on weight, height and head circumference. I know some people are worried about the added rice and so was I, but I'm confident it was the right decision for my baby. At 4 months she's rolling tummy/back and back/tummy and she's starting to sit up on her own. She vocalizes as good as our neighbors twins who are 13 months old.. So I think the rice has been fine for her because she's developing well and her reflux is practically nonexistent.

The First Years Take & Toss Infant Section Bowls w/ Lids - 3 Pack. Colors May Vary

The First Years Take & Toss Infant Section Bowls w/ Lids - 3 Pack. Colors May VarySomeone else mentioned the lids not working, but I have used this brand before so I figured I would give them a shot. It is very true, the lids do not work. I bought them to be used to send food to MDO and they are definitely useless since the food would spill all over. It would cost more to ship them back that what I paid for them so they are just going into the recycling bin. :(

I love these bowls. I put a frozen food cube (or two) in one section, some dry cereal in the other, and hit the town. By the time baby's ready to eat, the frozen food has thawed (if not, I just stick the bowl in some hot water). Iadd formula to the cereal, and dinner is served. It's very convent for daycare, as well as for trips to Grandma and Grandpa's.

The only problem is, you'll have to buy more spoons (the pack only comes with one).

My 9 month son goes to daycare twice a week. Since we have been feeding him vegetables for lunch I needed separated bowls with lids. He eats two different vegetables at lunch. I looked at all the retail stores but trying to find ones with lids were very hard.

These were worth the money. Only draw back is it seems like the lids want to come off sometimes from the middle, it secures the food in the compartments but don't let it get flipped upside down because then there is a mess.

These may work as deep divided bowls, but don't even try to travel with them you'll end up with food all over your bag.

Want The First Years Take & Toss Infant Section Bowls w/ Lids - 3 Pack. Colors May Vary Discount?

Anyone who has experience purchasing child feeding products probably knows that Take and Toss is not top of the line. They're made cheaply so that if you need to throw one away, it gets stained, ruined, lost, whatever....it isn't a huge loss. As such, they're also some of the cheapest products on the market.

I needed some divided bowls for my 7 month old who had reached the point of wanting two varieties of food at a time. We make our own baby food, so it wasn't like I had a couple of jars I could just switch between. Additionally, I got tired of trying to balance two bowls and alternate bites. After reviewing prices and reviews, I purchased these.

The short version is....they work as divided bowls. Are they spectacular? No, they're plastic bowls for a baby. Are they trash? Nah, we've had them for a few months and all 4 (there are 4 in the pack, not 3) are still fine. We don't microwave them (you shouldn't microwave a baby's food, or anyone's really, and especially not in a plastic container), we hand wash them, and they work fine.

The little lip around the edge that is suppose to be for the lid to snap in, that part is a little annoying if the food sits for more than a couple of minutes, because a sponge or cloth can't really get in there. However, a bottle brush works fine, as does the sprayer on my kitchen sink. Alternately, rinsing them as soon as you're done solves the problem as well.

The lids are garbage, to be perfectly honest. They do not snap on, and therefore serve no purpose whatsoever....but I knew that from the other reviews, and we did not need the ability to cover the bowls since they were being used in the home.

If you need some divided bowls for an infant or toddler, for in home use, without lids, this product is perfectly fine for that. If you need something to travel with that has a cover, choose something else.

Bobovita 7 Grain Porridge with Apples and Plums for Babies (180g / 6.34 Oz)

Bobovita 7 Grain Porridge with Apples and Plums for BabiesAmazon provided preparation instructions for HiPP tea but nothing for Bobovita and everything is clearly in Polish even though HiPP is German made.

I would not buy any of this any more as they are 8 times more expensive than in Europe. Wonderful product though...

Sprout Intermediate Organic Baby Food, 4-Ounce (Pack of 5)

Sprout Intermediate Organic Baby Food, Sweet Potato and White Bean, 4.0-OunceI make most of my baby food but these pouches are great for quick snacks on the go or when you are short on food. They are the only ones I could find that are organic and free of fruits. Not that I have anything against fruit but I just don't think it is appropriate to be giving kids/babies fruits with every snack/meal. Sugar has it's time and place. My 1 year old loves these and has been eating them since 9 months.

This particular mix is so tasty that sometimes I don't even "share" it with my toddler-I just eat it myself. While these food packets have been designed for babies and children, I actually find them incredibly convenient to pack as a healthy snack for myself.

My daughter is breast fed, is 10 months, and will barely eat most solids. She make take a few bites here or there, but not much. This is the first container of baby food that she actually finished...and in record timing! Like 2 minutes! They are a little more expensive then other baby foods, but it has a great mixture of fruits and veggies, most of which you can not find pureed in other baby brands. Plus she actually likes it...and it's good for her. Couldn't ask for more.

My DS started solids at 6m and I didn't think twice before I started giving her plum organics. However I noticed that she started to have nap regression. Then I noticed that the pouches had upto 12g of sugar! That's a lot for someone who cannot burn off the sugar by walking or running around.

Sprouts have great veggie-only or veggie-grain combos which have just 1-3g of sugars.great for beginner eaters! Love it

The Sili Squeeze Ultimate Sili Pack: 4oz Original Sili Squeeze & 6oz Sili Squeeze with Eeeze

The Sili Squeeze Ultimate Sili Pack: 4oz Original Sili Squeeze & 6oz Sili Squeeze with EeezeI'm so glad I found these pouches. My 16-month-old loves eating yogurt and smoothies out of them, and they are really easy to fill and clean. So far they have been leak-free in my diaper bag.

My biggest complaint is that the lids are NOT dishwasher safe. I read on the Sili Company website that all parts are dishwasher safe in the top rack, but one of my caps warped in the dishwasher and no longer fits over the spout.

Great quality and I love the fact that all he pieces come apart for easy washing. Also like the fact that you can just put them in the dishwasher. They hold a lot of food too.

Buy The Sili Squeeze Ultimate Sili Pack: 4oz Original Sili Squeeze & 6oz Sili Squeeze with Eeeze Now

My two youngest children are currently 3 and 1, so this pair of Sili squeezes was meant for both of them to have an easy, healthier and somewhat less expensive way to eat foods that are still difficult with a spoon and a bowl (not to mention the mess that I would have to clean up). We have primarily been using them for apple sauce and yogurt fruit blends. The larger one has a fast flow while the smaller one requires a bit more suction and the clear lids fit very snugly so no spills. They feel sturdy and simple to fill up and keep clean. The price is steep but it's been a month and I think I'll break even soon as we had been buying GoGo Squeez Apple Pouches on a regular basis. Being able to prepare and transport our own snacks has been a great way to eat healthier so we don't always have to resort to crackers and goldfish.

This is one of the few "gadgets" for kids and baby that actually gets used in our house. If you're hesitant but have been buying the expensive disposable pouches of snacks, this would be a smart purchase that you won't likely regret.
